Position description

The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures (ALC) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites applications for part-time or full-time assistant adjunct position(s) in Japanese language in the 2026-2027 academic year.

Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. degree by August 2026 in applied linguistics, Japanese language/linguistics, education, language pedagogy, and/or other language education-related areas. Three years or more of experience in teaching all levels of Japanese language courses at a university level is desirable.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 1 (https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2026-27/policy-covered-oct-2026-scales/t1.pdf) . The salary range for this position is $84,100 - $93,000. This annual salary rate reflects a 100% appointment. The selected candidate's salary rate will be prorated based on the designated percentage of time. "Off-scale salaries", i.e. a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
