Academic Administrator Mathematics & Science K-5 1.0 FTE Probationary Position

Position Summary
Lead the articulation and implementation of a comprehensive K-5 program of studies inclusive of dynamic instruction, innovative projects, and performance tasks at the K-5 elementary schools. Work directly with the Deputy Superintendent, building leadership and applicable faculty and staff to integrate key curriculum areas, including but not limited to K-5 mathematics and science. Provide oversight of the elementary enrichment and acceleration programming. Responsible for leading curriculum planning, assessment, accountability reporting and evaluation of current and new content aligned with the District's goals.
Qualifications
Valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL), District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certificate required
Advanced degree preferred; minimum requirement is a Master's degree with substantial coursework in education administration
Minimum five (5) years of teaching experience and/or three (3) years of administrative experience at the district and/or building level will be considered as deemed appropriate to the responsibilities of this position.
Extensive knowledge of the best practices for math and science instruction (i.e., inquiry-based learning, thinking classrooms, numeracy briefs), as well as knowledge of the principles and current trends of school administration, instructional leadership, and instructional technology.
Supervises: Applicable Elementary staff, including Elementary Coordinators for Math and Science, QUEST, Accelerated Math, and Enrichment Teachers
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Leadership
a) Works collaboratively with faculty, academic administrators, building and District-level leaders to ensure clear articulation of the District's instructional priorities to develop and support program offerings.
b) Initiate the development of programmatic goals and instructional objectives consistent with and in support of approved District goals.
c) Provide leadership in the development of the elementary mathematics and science curriculum, including the scope and sequence of programs for students and articulation from grade level to grade level and from elementary school to middle school.
d) Collaborate with building administrators, academic administrators, and District-level personnel with the analysis of data on student performance from various measures to evaluate program effectiveness.
e) Provide ongoing teaching support for applicable faculty and staff, including modeling, coaching and other techniques, the purpose of which is to improve instruction and student engagement.
f) Work closely with the teachers, building leaders and academic administrators to support school site curricula and staffing plans, courses of study and other improvement initiatives and processes.
g) Manage the Academic Intervention Service (AIS) and Multi-Tier Systems of Support (MTSS) components of elementary mathematics.
h) Collaborate with teachers to foster and facilitate professional learning communities, provide high quality professional development opportunities that support innovative pedagogical models focused on responsive teaching methods and support alternative/creative educational provisions.
i) Support the development and roll-out of a new Enrichment Class for Grades 1 -5 (current focus on Science) .
j) Provide leadership to the QUEST and Accelerated Math Teachers. Note: QUEST is a specialized enrichment class tailored for gifted and talented fourth and fifth-grade students who demonstrate advanced abstract reasoning, a rapid learning pace, and innovative thinking.
k) Oversee the identification of students for QUEST and Accelerated Math in Grades 3 - 4, as well as for math acceleration considerations in 1-2.
l) Provide leadership and participate in District Math and Science Committees
m) Provide leadership to the Elementary Coordinators in evaluating educational resources, purchasing and inventory of all materials.
n) Assist building principals in the administration of all New York State and standardized assessments related to elementary mathematics and science.
o) Identify areas of need to address the upcoming NYSED Finance Education and Climate Education requirements.
School-Community Partnerships
a) Foster and maintain partnerships and network connections with businesses, community groups and parents to support a dynamic/inquiry-based/application-oriented instructional program (i.e., Robotics Team 20, elementary programs).
b) Maintain positive and routine public relations with parents, business and community groups to provide information and receive feedback regarding the District's instructional program.
c) Utilize meaningful feedback of students, staff, families and community in the evaluation of school programs and policies.
d) Proactively engage families and the community in support of student learning.
Personnel and Financial Management
a) Direct and supervise the evaluation of applicable instructional staff ensuring systems of progress monitoring are established and progress is documented and in compliance with District, state and/or federal statutes and rules.
b) Direct and supervise applicable personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals and assist in making recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
c) Provide leadership and coordination with the Office of Professional Learning in the coordination and facilitation of pertinent and relevant professional development to applicable faculty for the purpose of elevating skill and knowledge consistent with the District goals and needs.
d) Participate in local, regional and state professional associations to ensure cutting edge knowledge for continued program evolution and expansion.
e) Collaborate with building leaders, academic administrators, teachers and District-level administration in the alignment and maximization of financial and human resources in the provision of program and services for students.
f) Provide leadership in conjunction with District and building administrators and academic administrators in identifying, acquiring and inventorying appropriate teaching materials, textbooks, equipment and technology.

b) Ensure that all teachers have high standards and positive expectations for all students to perform at high levels.

d) Professionally and effectively communicate relevant policies, academic requirements and environment of high expectation for success for all students.
e) Perform other tasks consistent with the job goals and responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent and/or his/her designee.
