About this Job
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of the Secretary exists to provide leadership and support services, administrative direction, and accountability for departmental programs; administrative direction and leadership to ensure the success of subordinate programs; and department-wide coordination, communication, personnel and basic resources needed to accomplish the department's mission.
This Captain position will plan, direct and manage general and complex enforcement activities of a region's operational/patrol and administrative enforcement programs related to the management, protection and conservation of wildlife and fisheries resources and the state's boating program. This includes all facets of surveillance, interrogation, investigation, apprehension and arrest of violators of state and federal laws, boating programs, boating crash investigations, state boating education programs and other division support programs.
This position is located within theEnforcement Division of the Office of the Secretary Region 6-Thibodaux.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant or higher rank in state service:
Six years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
Possession of a current driver's license.
Applicants may be required to qualify as an ex-officio notary public.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately, and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.

The Captain will directly supervise and evaluate Lieutenants and other assigned subordinates and civilian employees, will schedule and assign work and review schedules and training needs, and ensure optimum utilization and productivity of all resources, equipment and budgets.
