Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support a complex civil litigation team in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This is a Contract-to-hire position is great for someone who can manage fast-moving legal and administrative work while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and confidentiality. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to case preparation, court filings, scheduling, and billing coordination in a deadline-driven legal environment. After completing training, a hybrid schedule may be available with a combination of in-office and remote work.

Responsibilities:

Manage electronic preparation, organization, and submission of court documents to ensure filings are accurate and timely.

Draft and format preliminary materials for motions, discovery, and related litigation documents for attorney review.

Coordinate logistics for depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, including scheduling and document readiness.

Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and outside experts regarding case-related matters.

Support attorneys with trial and dispute-resolution preparation by assembling exhibits, binders, and case materials.

Oversee calendars, meetings, conference calls, travel arrangements, and key litigation deadlines across multiple matters.

Assist with payment processing and help facilitate client invoicing and billing-related administrative tasks.

Maintain organized legal files and manage documents using standard office software and document management tools.

Handle additional administrative support duties as needed while balancing multiple priorities and urgent deadlines.

Requirements

At least 2-3+ years of experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or in a similar legal support role.

Background supporting complex civil or defense litigation is strongly preferred.

High school diploma required; legal secretarial training, business school coursework, or a paralegal certificate is preferred.

Demonstrated experience with e-filing, court submissions, calendar management, and billing coordination.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel, as well as Adobe Acrobat for document editing.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with careful attention to proofreading, grammar, and document quality.

Ability to manage a high-volume workload, meet critical deadlines, and exercise sound judgment with confidential information.

Willingness to work additional hours when needed; prior exposure to billable time expectations is a plus.
