About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a growing team developing advanced semiconductor capital equipment. This is a highly visible role offering ownership of complex mechanical systems from concept through production, with direct involvement in product architecture, analysis, proto@type development, testing, and manufacturing support. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial machine design, vacuum systems, semiconductor equipment, and cradle-to-grave product development. This position provides the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies while collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer teams.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & System Ownership
Own the mechanical architecture of advanced ion beam deposition and etch systems.
Design and develop:
Vacuum vessels and sealed chambers
Wafer-handling systems
Motion mechanisms
Automation and robotic interfaces
OEM component integrations
Make design decisions that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and schedule requirements.
Lead projects through the full product lifecycle, from concept development to production release.
Engineering Analysis & Validation
Perform and lead:
Structural FEA
Thermal analysis
Heat transfer modeling
Motion system analysis
Fluid dynamics evaluations
Develop and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) and validation plans.
Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective design changes.
Support design reviews by presenting technical analyses, risk assessments, and test results.
Proto@type Development & Manufacturing Support
Lead proto@type development, assembly, testing, and evaluation activities.
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to support builds, integration, and troubleshooting.
Work with Supply Chain on vendor selection, procurement decisions, and component qualification.
Support engineering change activities through ECO processes and PLM systems.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner with Process, Electrical, Controls, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams.
Define design specifications based on customer requirements and performance objectives.
Ensure compliance with SEMI safety standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across projects.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience, OR
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6+ years of relevant experience.
Experience designing:
Semiconductor capital equipment
Vacuum systems
Precision mechanical systems
Industrial machinery
Strong proficiency with:
SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or comparable 3D CAD software
AutoCAD or equivalent drafting software
Experience performing:
Structural FEA
Thermal analysis
Mechanical simulations
Comprehensive understanding of:
Machine design
Sheet metal design
Mechanical assemblies
Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
Experience owning projects from concept through production release.
Hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting proto@type equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Semiconductor equipment design experience.
Knowledge of:
Vacuum physics
Thin-film deposition processes
Ion beam technology
Experience with:
Robotics and automation systems
Motion control and motor selection
Industrial sensors and controls
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes
Familiarity with SEMI S2 and S8 safety standards.
Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical projects.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
