Summary This position is located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in the Division of Science and Resource Management Division. Responsibilities Implements and monitors established natural resource management projects by following instructions and standard procedures. Provides advice, assistance, and training to partners, interns, students, volunteers and employees involved in resource management projects and field research. Works closely with park resource managers and scientists. Provides information to other employees and visitors about the natural resource management program. Uses a variety of computer programs to compile, reduce, store, retrieve, analyze, and report data and other resource management information. Uses a wide variety of specialized equipment to carry out resource management projects. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/17/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify for this position at the GS-8 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: (Screen-Out) EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: applying an understanding of issues related to resource management; participating in planning projects and making decisions on the methods and procedures to be used, as well as improving, adapting, or developing techniques, procedures, or equipment, assists higher level specialists/technicians in utilizing various techniques to gather biological samples, and management of aquatic invasive species mitigation. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a two full years of graduate level education with coursework in a field of study directly related to the position to be filled including biology, ecology, environmental science, marine biology, marine ecology, etc.... You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of experience and education as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of months of qualifying, full-time experience and divide by 12. Multiply the resulting decimal by 100. Then take the number of semester hours completed beyond the first 18 semester hours and divide by 18. Multiple the resulting decimal by 100. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Physical Demands: The work requires regular physical exertion such as walking or climbing over wet, rough, uneven and/or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping or reaching to observe, collect and/or record field data; or in some situations the work may require physical exertions to handle wild animals, prepare soil for planting, to scuba dive or operate a boat. Moderately heavy items, such as equipment packs weighing up to 50 pounds, must be lifted and carried on a regular basis. May be required to hike several miles in a day. Working Conditions: The work environment varies from office/laboratory settings to field sites. The work performed in the field involves regular and recurring exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, poisonous plants, biting insects and wild animals.
