Description of Job
Substitute Teachers work on an as-needed basis to provide instructional support in the absence of a regular classroom teacher. There are no guaranteed hours or set schedules. Substitute Teachers implement lesson plans, support student learning, and maintain a safe, positive learning environment for students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind, or Visually Impaired. Assignments may vary in length and location based on the operational needs of CSDB.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience working with children or youth is required.
Experience working with students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind, or Visually Impaired is preferred.
Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required for assignments serving students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
A current, valid Colorado Educator License or Colorado Substitute Authorization is required prior to employment. Information regarding educator licensure is available through the Colorado Department of Education.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships in a collaborative team environment.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to quickly adapt to new classroom environments and effectively implement lesson plans.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize instructional strategies and technologies appropriate to assigned students, including students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind, or Visually Impaired, as applicable.
Ability to receive feedback, exercise sound judgment, and maintain professionalism in a variety of educational settings.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a temporary, as-needed position with no guaranteed hours or set schedule. Temporary employees participate in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA), receive Workers' Compensation coverage, and are subject to applicable federal, state, and local tax withholdings. This position is not eligible for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid leave, holiday pay, or other employee benefits.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Verification of education, licensure, and applicable work experience is required.
Direct deposit is required.
Successful candidates must comply with all applicable Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) and State of Colorado policies, including the Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
Employment is contingent upon verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States in accordance with federal law.
Successful candidates must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings, which may include criminal history checks, employment verification, licensure verification, and professional reference checks.
