Summary You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/OCEANOGRAPHER/DATA SCIENTIST in the OCEANOGRAPHIC DEPARTMENT, NAVAL OCEANOGRAPHIC OFFICE of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS. Responsibilities You will serve as a senior scientist in the analysis and databasing of oceanographic data in support of operational requirements. You will implement and document new or improvement of existing oceanographic processing, data analysis, and visualization techniques, testing and validating upgrades in collaboration with other scientists. You will participate in at-sea oceanographic operations serving as a senior Oceanographer ensuring that all physical oceanographic data is collected properly. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of SPECIALIZED experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience comparing and modifying oceanographic data (such as temperature, salinity, sound speed, currents, and optics) using scientific programming software to generate environmental products and reports. Conducting at-sea field operations, including the collection and quality control of physical oceanographic data using a variety of scientific instruments including but not limited to Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth profilers (CTDs), Expendable Bathythermographs (XBTs), Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs), and Moving Vessel Profilers (MVPs). Experience preparing and presenting reports or briefings that convey technical oceanographic information to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
