The Electrical Superintendent is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the operation, maintenance, and reliability of an electrical distribution system. This role provides leadership for electric utility operations, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards, manages departmental personnel, and supports long-term system growth and infrastructure improvements.
Responsibilities
Respond to operational emergencies as needed and maintain availability for on-call situations.
Design and oversee layouts for underground and overhead primary and secondary electrical distribution systems, including street lighting infrastructure.
Evaluate and recommend distribution system upgrades, expansions, and improvements to support load growth and operational efficiency.
Ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality electric service to customers.
Maintain compliance with engineering, safety, construction, and regulatory standards.
Oversee required training, safety, environmental, and regulatory recordkeeping.
Coordinate and facilitate equipment maintenance and repair activities.
Assist with troubleshooting power outages and restoration efforts.
Prepare project estimates including labor, material, and equipment requirements.
Lead hiring, training, performance management, employee development, disciplinary actions, and workforce planning for department staff.
Coordinate required employee testing and certification programs.
Direct and supervise electrical operations involving governmental agencies, private organizations, contractors, and industrial customers.
Monitor electrical substations and distribution infrastructure, including load management and outage mitigation strategies.
Develop, manage, and monitor departmental operating and capital budgets.
Address project challenges related to delays, weather conditions, emergencies, or unforeseen circumstances.
Interpret plans, specifications, and contract requirements for internal stakeholders, contractors, and project teams.
Prepare progress reports, budget forecasts, and cost-tracking documentation.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
Construction management experience.
Electrical construction and substation knowledge.
Utility and electrical utility construction expertise.
High school diploma or GED required.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in electric utility operations, electrical distribution, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
Completion of a recognized four-year Apprentice Lineman Program or equivalent combination of technical training and field experience.
Knowledge of electric distribution systems, substations, line construction, and utility operations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of construction and electrical construction.
Experience with construction supervision.
Work Environment
The role requires a combination of office and outdoor work environments with exposure to varying weather and field conditions. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a flexible schedule option available for a 4-day, 10-hour workweek. The position requires frequent interaction with employees, customers, contractors, and public stakeholders. Occasional evening, weekend, holiday, and emergency-response work may be required, along with periodic overnight travel.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $55.29/hr.
