Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on the design and analysis of low and medium voltage power distribution systems for a variety of facilities and projects. You will apply your electrical engineering expertise to develop safe, reliable, and code-compliant designs while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams. The position involves primarily office-based engineering work with limited site visits, typically about one week onsite every two to three months, and includes working under the guidance of discipline group professional engineers (DG PEs).
Responsibilities
Design low and medium voltage power distribution systems in compliance with local municipal and public utility building codes.
Develop protective relay schemes, including relay scenarios and settings, to ensure proper system protection and coordination.
Design DC control power systems for medium voltage equipment and installations.
Design substation yard layouts and specify medium voltage equipment to meet project and code requirements.
Create grounding system designs and perform site analysis to ensure personnel and equipment safety.
Design lighting systems for outdoor and interior spaces, balancing performance, efficiency, and code compliance.
Develop arc flash hazard assessment models to define hazard boundaries, short circuit ratings, and overcurrent protection coordination.
Perform duct bank modeling and heating analysis to ensure proper cable thermal performance and reliability.
Conduct generator studies and sizing, including controls, loading analysis, and system integration.
Coordinate with civil and site designers on underground and overhead distribution equipment design to ensure fully integrated solutions.
Create three-line drawings for power distribution systems to clearly document system configuration and protection.
Perform load calculations and select cables based on application, design standards, and project requirements.
Observe, assess, and document site installation systems and testing activities to verify compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
Prepare written progress reports and present them to project managers and clients in a clear and professional manner.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors on new construction and renovation projects to ensure cohesive design solutions.
Review electrical design specifications and drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
Design low voltage electrical distribution systems, including switchboards, motor control centers (MCCs), generators, transformers, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs).
Review construction cost estimates and budgets related to electrical systems and provide technical input as needed.
Manage and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
Build and strengthen relationships with internal teams and clients by delivering high-quality engineering solutions and demonstrating strong technical expertise.
Essential Skills
At least 3 years of experience working on low and medium voltage power distribution systems.
Strong in electrical engineering and electrical design for power systems and power distribution.
Experience in medium voltage power design, including load flow analysis and development of electrical engineering drawings.
Proficiency with power system analysis tools such as ETAP and SKM, or similar platforms for modeling and studies.
Familiarity with Rural Utility Standards, IEEE Standards, and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
Proficiency in AutoCAD and related design tools for preparing electrical drawings.
Ability to interpret and apply local municipal and public utility building codes to electrical designs.
Solid understanding of protective relaying, arc flash analysis, grounding, and overcurrent protection coordination.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to generate technical reports and conduct group presentations.
Ability to coordinate effectively with engineers, architects, project managers, clients, and contractors.
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in a manufacturing environment, particularly on medium voltage power design, EasyPower, load flow analysis, and electrical engineering drawings (preferred).
Proficiency with EasyPower software systems for power system analysis (preferred).
Experience with Revit software for electrical modeling and coordination (preferred).
Experience working on multi-disciplinary large capital projects (preferred).
Familiarity with facilities document control systems and processes (preferred).
Experience reviewing and updating electrical system models to reflect design and field changes (preferred).
Familiarity with construction processes and documents, including drawings, specifications, and submittals.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in electrical engineering (preferred).
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification in electrical and computer engineering (preferred).
Work Environment
The role is primarily office-based, with engineers typically performing detailed design and analysis work using software tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, and potentially Revit. You will work under the guidance of discipline group professional engineers (DG PEs) and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, architectural, and construction professionals. Limited fieldwork is expected, with site visits generally occurring about one week every two to three months to observe installations, support testing activities, and verify compliance with design documents and codes. The work involves contributing to multiple projects at once in a structured, project-driven environment where clear communication, documentation, and coordination are essential. The culture emphasizes technical excellence, teamwork, and building strong, long-term relationships with clients and internal partners
