Job Summary
Under long-range administrative direction, the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant and project scope. Responsibilities include providing training, guidance and other necessary support to business unit leadership and staff on applicable environmental requirements, identifying applicable environmental requirements associated with Company assets and projects, and coordinating with the appropriate business unit staff, Environmental Services representatives, contractors, and external parties to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
The Environmental Coordinator should have a proficient understanding of many of the following environmental programs:
Above ground and underground storage tanks
Transportation of hazardous materials
Solid and hazardous waste management
Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures
Storm Water, wastewater, groundwater, and drinking water sampling, reporting and control
Oil and chemical spill response and management
Air emissions monitoring, control and reporting
Asbestos and PCB management
Pollution prevention
Environmental site assessments
Emergency planning, and community right-to-know
Key competencies of this position are technical expertise, planning and organization ability, problem solving, written and oral communication skills and initiative. Must be able to work autonomously and with limited supervision.
Job Description
What you'll do:
Coordinate and implement all environmental activities and policies in the assigned region(s) to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations and Company policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals.
Assist and provide input to Environmental Services on the development of Company environmental policies and procedures. Communicate deviations appropriately.
Provide training, instruction and assistance to others on the implementation of environmental requirements and assist in the development of environmental training materials.
Provide support in the event of a release or discharge of a regulated substance including making agency notifications, arranging contractor support, directing cleanup efforts if necessary and completing follow-up reports with regulatory agencies.
Promote and enforce (see something, say something, do something) safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the public, and Company facilities.
Provide support during environmental compliance reviews, Phase I or II environmental site assessments and remediation projects.
Coordinate and respond to public inquiries regarding environmental matters. As well as effectively communicate environmental compliance issues to appropriate internal parties.
Develop and maintain environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.
Conduct environmental reviews of regional disposal contractors and related facilities and manage contracts associated with Environmental Services.
What we're looking for:
Environmental Coordinator Sr - (SG7)
Associate or bachelor's degree in environmental, science, or related discipline.
Minimum of eight years of environmental experience with an associate degree or six years of environmental experience with a bachelor's degree.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license
Physical demand ranges from sedentary to light duty.
Must be proficient in the competencies of the programs listed in the job summary above.
Travel time ranges from 50% - 80% and will include overnight stays on occasion.
Must be available by phone after work hours and weekends; frequency is minimal.
Environmental Coordinator Principle - (SG8)
Minimum of twelve years of environmental experience with an associate degree or ten years of environmental experience with a bachelor's degree.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license
Physical demand ranges from sedentary to light duty.
Additional Requirements (Preferred Qualifications): Must possess advanced knowledge in the competencies of the programs listed in the job summary above.
Travel time ranges from 50% - 80% and will include overnight stays on occasion.
Must be available by phone after work hours and weekends; frequency is minimal.
Environmental Coordinator Consultant - (SG9)
Minimum of sixteen years of environmental experience with an associate degree or fourteen years of environmental experience with a bachelor's degree.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license
Physical demand ranges from sedentary to light duty.
Additional Requirements (Preferred Qualifications): Must possess expert knowledge in the competencies of the programs listed in the job summary above.
Travel time ranges from 50% - 80% and will include overnight stays on occasion.
Must be available by phone after work hours and weekends; frequency is minimal.
In addition:
Up to 80% travel to job site / Need to be able to support all AEP support locations in 11 States
Supporting environmental aspects of the role (sampling, inspections, etc.)
Flexibility on work schedule.

This role sits on site in Columbus, OH or additional areas to include Rockport, IN and Owensboro, KY.
