Position Summary

The Behavior Technician III (BT III) provides educational and behavioral support services to students with special needs within a school setting. This position is specifically assigned to support a student who communicates using American Sign Language (ASL) . The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, understand the unique communication and accessibility needs of this population, and be able to effectively facilitate behavioral, social, and educational goals through ASL.

The BT III collaborates with teachers, behavioral specialists, related service providers, and school staff to support student success while maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide direct behavioral and educational support to students with special needs.

Communicate effectively with the student using American Sign Language (ASL).

Support the student's academic, behavioral, communication, and social-emotional goals.

Implement behavior intervention plans and instructional strategies as directed.

Collect and document behavioral and academic data accurately.

Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, behavior analysts, and related service providers.

Support students exhibiting challenging behaviors, including aggression and elopement.

Assist with personal care and toileting needs as required.

Promote an inclusive learning environment that supports communication access and student independence.

Demonstrate awareness and understanding of Deaf culture and the impact of hearing loss on communication, learning, and social interactions.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Ability to communicate effectively using American Sign Language (ASL) to support a student's daily educational and behavioral needs.

Understanding of the unique needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing .

Comfortable providing toileting and personal care assistance.

Experience supporting individuals with behavioral challenges.

Experience managing behaviors including:

Aggression

Elopement

Ability to support students across various age groups.

Current CPR certification, if applicable.

TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray, if applicable.

Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

1.5-2+ years of direct ABA experience in a school, clinic, or in-home setting.

Experience working in a Special Day Class (SDC) setting.

Two (2) years of pediatric experience.

Experience supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Intermediate or higher proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).

Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies and positive behavior supports.

Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary special education teams.
