Job Description
Position Purpose
This position handles all student business transactions, receives tuition and fees, enters information in the Minnesota State accounting systems and handles other payment transactions so payments are recorded and accounted for accurately. Analyzes and enters all payment transactions including cash, check, credit card and payment plans into the accounting system using correct codes and student data.
Position requires the ability to accurately handle a high volume of cash transactions and individual accounts. Complex financial aid awards and payment plans require a high level of attention to detail and knowledge of the college Business Office operations.
Daily customer service contact includes in person, answering and returning phone calls and correspondence, while answering both routine and complex questions about accounts. Work also requires regular contact with other college departments and faculty, particularly regarding student accounts.
Position Responsibilities
Performs cashiering duties including accepting deposit and payments from students, staff, and faculty, ensuring that funds are applied correctly, and department policy and procedures are followed.
Process external scholarships.
Process post-secondary education option students.
Salary Range:
$21.12 - $28.01/hour
(DOQ - Salary Placement will be done at time of hire.)
Minimum Qualifications (must have at time of application )
Two years of experience in clerical, data entry, customer service, or business-related positions.
Accounting - knowledge of basic accounting procedures and technical skills sufficient to perform daily cash sessions, process payments, receive fees, correct accounts/invoices, answer questions about accounts and balance the cash drawer daily in accordance with laws, policies, and procedures.
Customer service skills - for telephone calls, emails, in-person, for staff, students, and faculty sufficient to perform the duties described above with courtesy, respect, and interest in positive problem solving.
Word processing / Spreadsheets - Knowledge of standard computer software programs for word processing, and spreadsheets sufficient to create, modify, and manage them.
Math - basic arithmetic sufficient to maintain complete and accurate financial records, balance and resolve discrepancies.
Data entry - ability to input data quickly and accurately.
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
Associate's degree in accounting, Business, Math, or related field.
Advance technology skills to draft and organize letters and spreadsheets using formulas and a variety of layout formats.
Specialized terminology - Knowledge of basic business and governmental accounting terminology, principles, and procedures sufficient to record, post, code and verify information is accurate.
Knowledge of laws, policies and procedures of the State Legislative Auditor, Department of Finance and the State Treasurers.
Knowledge of Minn State ERP systems including but not limited to ISRS (Integrated Student Registration System) and Workday.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with students, staff, and external funding agencies.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize workload effectively, work independently, and collaborate as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to identify and resolve errors or discrepancies in financial transactions.

Fridays during the summer. This position does not allow for telework / a hybrid work environment during the fiscal year (August - May) but would be eligible to work from home on Fridays during the summer. The hiring manager can provide additional guidance to the @type of work environment at/following the interview process.
