Position Summary:
The Mechanical Engineering Manager leads the Design and Mechanical Engineering disciplines for MAS liquid cooling products. They serve as the senior authority for mechanical architecture, product performance, engineering standards, validation strategy, and design governance. This position manages senior mechanical engineers, mechanical engineers, designers, and drafters while providing technical leadership for CDU, RDHx, AALC and future liquid cooling platforms.
The role owns mechanical design strategy from concept through commercial release and maintains accountability for product technical performance throughout the product lifecycle. The position works closely with product management, electrical engineering, controls engineering, manufacturing engineering, production engineering, procurement, quality, commissioning, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Engineering Discipline Leadership
Own and lead the Mechanical Engineering discipline across all liquid cooling product development activities.
Establish engineering standards, design methodologies, calculation methods, and best practices.
Drive consistency, technical excellence, and continuous improvement within the mechanical engineering function.
Serve as the senior authority for mechanical design decisions and engineering governance.
Establish design review processes and engineering approval requirements.
Team Leadership and People Development
Provide formal management and development of mechanical engineers, designers, and drafters.
Manage staffing plans, resource allocation, workload balancing, and project assignments.
Conduct performance management, coaching, mentoring, and career development planning.
Build technical capability and succession planning within the engineering organization.
Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and engineering excellence.
Product Architecture and Mechanical Design Ownership
Lead mechanical architecture development for CDU, RDHx, AALC, and future liquid cooling platforms.
Own mechanical design decisions from concept through proto@type, validation, and production release.
Review and approve major system layouts, assemblies, and design documentation.
Ensure products meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost objectives.
Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Serviceability (DFS), and Design for Cost initiatives.
Component Selection Standards
Own engineering standards and selection methodologies for pumps, heat exchangers, valves, sensors, piping, fittings, filtration devices, expansion systems, and related mechanical components.
Establish approved component strategies that improve reliability, serviceability, availability, and lifecycle cost.
Define qualification requirements for critical mechanical components.
Partner with sourcing, quality, and suppliers to evaluate new technologies and components.
Mechanical Validation and Laboratory Ownership
Own mechanical engineering validation strategy for all product platforms.
Define requirements for functional, performance, environmental, durability, transportation, reliability, lifecycle, and safety testing.
Establish engineering validation processes and test acceptance criteria.
Own mechanical engineering laboratories, development equipment, test infrastructure, and laboratory roadmaps.
Partner with leadership to identify and justify future testing and development investments.
Ensure validation programs appropriately mitigate product risk before commercial release.
Technical Performance Accountability
Maintain accountability for product technical performance after launch.
Review field performance, warranty trends, reliability metrics, validation data, and quality performance.
Lead root cause investigations for design-related issues.
Drive corrective actions, redesigns, and product improvement activities when necessary.
Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into future product development efforts.
Technology Strategy and Innovation
Develop a multi-year mechanical technology roadmap aligned with MAS product strategy.
Evaluate emerging cooling technologies, materials, pumps, heat exchangers, and thermal management solutions.
Identify opportunities for product differentiation through improved performance, reliability, serviceability, and cost optimization.
Support innovation initiatives and intellectual property development.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Collaborate closely with product management to translate customer requirements into product solutions.
Partner with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, service, and operations teams to support successful product launches.
Support customer and supplier technical discussions, design reviews, and product evaluations.
Drive alignment between business objectives and engineering execution.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
10+ years of mechanical engineering experience with significant emphasis on product development.
3+ years of engineering management or technical leadership experience.
Experience leading product development from concept through production release.
Strong SolidWorks 3D CAD experience.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fluid dynamics, system integration, DFM, validation, and engineering release processes.
Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Preferred:
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Experience with CDU, RDHx, AALC, or data center liquid cooling infrastructure.
Experience with CFD and advanced thermal simulation tools.
Familiarity with ASHREA, ASME, AHRI, UL, CE, and relevant industry standards.
Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations. Key Competencies:
