Job Description
Minneapolis College is currently looking for a limited, full-time Academic Success Specialist for Course Placement. This limited position with run through December 31st, 2026.
This position provides coordination and serves as a professional resource for both functional areas of academic support and course placement for college faculty, staff, and students. Serves as the assessment and course placement expert/professional resource for students, faculty, staff, and community partners. Interpret statutes, policies, and guidelines (Minn State and assessment vendor) to develop, communicate, and implement operating procedures and processes effectively with and through stakeholders.
Coordinate and administer all Assessment Center testing and course placement activities and processes for new, continuing, and in the local high schools, ensuring the academic integrity of exam administration and the security of the testing environment. Select, gather, and analyze appropriate assessment data and develop recommendations to assist with student retention and success for prospective, current, and former students, faculty, staff, sponsoring agencies, other educational institutions, technical college administrators, and State Board staff, within parameters set by law and ethical standards. Prepare reports for college administrators, Minnesota State, and federal agencies so the college remains in compliance with regulatory and funding requirements. Serve as the coordinator and technical support person in implementing Minnesota State assessment policy, procedures, and technology updates. Collaborate with all assessment vendors to maintain certification, develop, update, and amend contracts, and coordinate the administration of assessments.
Collaborate with all Minneapolis College departments, staff, faculty, administration, and community partners to identify assessment and academic support needs, equity gaps, unnecessary barriers, and strategies to improve student success and college enrollment. Develop and coordinate process improvements related to course placement policy, practices and procedures, and other initiatives.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Acts as a lead in the day-to-day operations of Course Placement processes.
Provide advising services to prospective, current, and returning students.
In collaboration with the director, coordinate process improvements related to course placement and other strategies to support student success.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Salary Range:
$26.12- $ 37.91 hourly / $54,539 - $ 79,156 annually
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree plus 2 years of related experience.
Ability to work effectively with students from diverse and traditionally underserved backgrounds with varied needs.
Decision-making skills are sufficient to coach students on practical approaches to making career and educational choices to meet their needs.
Human relations/customer service sufficient to manage and query data and create business correspondence, reports, and training presentations.
Ability to plan, organize, and administer multiple activities, deliver results, and meet deadlines.
Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency, incorporates culturally responsive practices,and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in academic advising programs, curriculum, services and resources to assist applicants and students in making sound career and education decisions.
Bachelor's degree or higher plus three (3) or more years of related experience.
Proficiency in using student record systems, project management and specialty software.
