Transportation Engineer IIPerforms complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Develops design and project development reports, surveys and correspondence.Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Performs complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and assisting in transportation planning studies.Trains engineering staff.Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IIIPerforms advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:The essential duties for this job include those listed above and the following:Develops plans for the Project Managers related to resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives.Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes. Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
