Job Title: Demolition Laborer
Job Description
The demolition laborer plays a key role in safely dismantling building materials such as concrete and drywall, performing debris removal, and supporting construction and demolition activities. This position involves frequent use of hand and power tools, potential operation of larger equipment, and adherence to strict safety and environmental guidelines throughout demolition and cleanup processes.
Responsibilities
Dismantle and remove concrete, drywall, and other building materials using appropriate tools and methods.
Perform debris removal and ensure work areas remain clean and organized throughout demolition activities.
Safely operate hand and power tools, including but not limited to jackhammers and other demolition tools.
Assist in the operation of larger equipment such as skid steers and loaders when required.
Lift, carry, and hold building materials, tools, and supplies to support demolition and construction tasks.
Dig, spread, and level dirt and gravel to prepare or restore work areas.
Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) during demolition and cleanup to ensure safety and efficiency.
Work closely with peers and on-site team members to complete demolition tasks effectively and safely.
Maintain a safe working environment and comply with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Clean tools, equipment, and work areas at the end of each shift or as directed.
Complete specific projects, assignments, and other tasks as assigned by supervision.
Perform other duties as assigned to support general labor, building teardown, and commercial construction activities.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of construction experience, including exposure to demolition or concrete work.
Hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools in a construction or demolition environment.
Ability to perform physically demanding labor, including lifting, carrying, digging, and operating tools for extended periods.
Knowledge of safe operation practices for demolition tools such as jackhammers and other power equipment.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Commitment to maintaining safety standards and complying with OSHA and EPA regulations.
Valid DBIDS credentials in hand.
Valid REAL ID.
Reliability to work scheduled hours and participate in out-of-town travel when required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with concrete demolition and building teardown.
Background in general labor within construction or commercial construction environments.
Familiarity with operating or assisting with skid steers, loaders, and similar equipment.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in fast-paced and changing site conditions.
Strong attention to detail when following safety procedures and cleanup protocols.

Work Environment
Work takes place in both outdoor and indoor settings and continues in various weather conditions, including rain or shine. Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays as needed, offering regular full-time schedules with potential overtime. The role is based on active construction and demolition sites where hand tools, power tools, and occasionally larger equipment such as skid steers and loaders are used. The environment is physically demanding and safety-focused, with adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portsmouth, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
