Job Description
This Medical Assistant role provides hands-on clinical and administrative support in a busy urgent care setting. You will prepare patients and exam rooms, assist physicians and nurse practitioners during visits and procedures, and accurately document all aspects of patient care in the electronic medical record. The position offers the opportunity to work with a high volume of patients, develop skills across different specialties, and grow within the organization.
Responsibilities
Perform and document vital signs accurately for each patient visit.
Prepare patients and examination rooms for exams and procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment at all times.
Provide essential patient care support to physicians, including greeting patients, verifying basic information, taking vital signs, and preparing them for examination.
Assist physicians with procedures by documenting medical history, case notes, and other relevant clinical information.
Relay instructions from physicians or nurse practitioners to patients or authorized individuals clearly and accurately.
Collect patient data in person and by phone, including symptoms and concerns, and document this information in the electronic medical record.
Record messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for physician or nurse practitioner review.
Take complete and accurate messages, route them to the appropriate area, and ensure timely follow-up.
Enter orders and referrals, set up cases in the electronic medical record system, and perform basic registration and demographic updates.
Accurately document medical information, treatments, and patient interactions in the patient record.
Track and route test results to physicians and nurse practitioners for review in a timely manner.
Communicate test results to patients when directed and deemed appropriate by the physician or nurse practitioner.
Facilitate patient care activities by scheduling ancillary tests and reinforcing patient education as directed by the care team.
Perform basic triage functions as appropriate and directed by physicians or nurse practitioners, in line with site operations.
Maintain adequate inventory of medical, office, and pharmaceutical supplies, and restock as needed.
Use electronic health records proficiently to support daily documentation, order entry, and communication related to patient care.
Process orders appropriately within the electronic medical record and follow established workflows.
Support a high-volume urgent care environment by managing multiple tasks efficiently and maintaining a strong patient focus.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of Medical Assistant experience.
Proficiency in obtaining and documenting vital signs.
Experience working with electronic health records and electronic medical record systems.
Ability to accurately document medical history, case notes, and patient information.
Strong patient care skills in an outpatient or urgent care setting.
Ability to assist physicians and nurse practitioners during exams and procedures.
Competence in collecting patient data in person and by phone and documenting patient concerns.
Skill in routing messages, entering orders and referrals, and updating patient demographics.
Ability to track and route test results and communicate results to patients as directed.
Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked clinical environment.
Basic computer skills to support daily documentation and communication.
Effective verbal and written communication skills to relay instructions and reinforce patient education.
Ability to perform basic triage functions under the direction of clinical providers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent credential is beneficial.
Experience in urgent care or high-volume clinical settings is a plus.
Familiarity with phlebotomy and related clinical procedures is advantageous.
Comfort working across different specialties and adapting to varied clinical needs.
Demonstrated interest in professional growth and development within the organization.
Ability to work occasional overtime when needed.
Work Environment
This role is based in a busy urgent care facility that typically sees 50-100 patients per day. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility to work until 6:00 p.m. as needed and opportunities for overtime in different specialties. You will work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other clinical staff while using electronic health record systems throughout the day for documentation, order entry, and communication. The environment is fast-paced and patient-centered, requiring a strong focus on efficiency, accuracy, and teamwork.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Fallsburg, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
