We are seeking an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join a growing manufacturing organization in Monroe, NC and play a key leadership role in supporting high-volume production manufacturing operations, with a strong focus on plastic injection molding, process optimization, equipment performance, and continuous improvement.
This role is highly focused on production floor manufacturing support and requires a hands-on engineering leader who can drive efficiency, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, optimize injection molding processes, and improve overall production performance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in injection molding within medical device manufacturing, FDA-regulated manufacturing, or plastic packaging production, along with strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the Manufacturing Engineering team of 4, including:
1 Level I Engineer
1 Level II Engineer
2 Technicians
Provide engineering leadership for daily production manufacturing operations, with a strong emphasis on injection molding performance and process stability
Support and troubleshoot high-volume manufacturing processes to minimize downtime and maximize throughput
Optimize plastic injection molding processes to improve cycle times, scrap reduction, yield, and product quality
Plan and assign activities across the Manufacturing Engineering team
Perform annual performance reviews and support team development
Manage and mentor Manufacturing Engineers to support growth and development within the department
Conduct risk and opportunity assessments and coordinate actions accordingly
Identify and address complex investigations to solve operational and production challenges
Conduct production investigations and determine root causes with associated corrective and preventative actions
Coordinate OPEX (Operational Excellence) activities within the department
Lead continuous improvement and quality support initiatives
Support Lean Six Sigma projects and process improvement efforts
Oversee equipment transfers and production integration projects, including equipment transfers from Europe
Drive improvements in machine utilization, production efficiency, and manufacturing output
Design and optimize manufacturing workflows, systems, and resources
Coordinate creation and maintenance of required documentation for manufacturing processes
Identify opportunities and propose solutions to reduce waste and production inefficiencies
Propose and support actions to maximize safety, quality, and cost reduction
Support installation, startup, and validation of new production systems and equipment
Initiate and follow up on Change Control processes for department operations
Coordinate and implement corrective and preventative actions across the department
Coordinate resolution of production delays, bottlenecks, and operational issues
Ensure manufacturing procedures follow safety and environmental regulations
Support development and continuous improvement of production, processes, and personnel
Coordinate validation activities within the department
Coordinate DOE (Design of Experiments) activities to support process improvements
Lead investigations related to production quality deviations and customer claims, including report approvals
Stay current on engineering trends, emerging technologies, and supplier capabilities through research, trade shows, and industry engagement
Support qualification and training of personnel
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred
Strong hands-on manufacturing experience required; equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree
Minimum 5+ years of experience in a production manufacturing environment
Injection molding experience is required
Strong experience supporting high-volume manufacturing and production operations
Must have experience within medical device manufacturing, an FDA-regulated environment, or plastic injection molding operations
Candidates from the plastic food packaging industry will also be considered
Strong understanding of injection molding process optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement
Experience improving manufacturing throughput, efficiency, scrap reduction, and quality performance
Prior leadership or team management experience strongly preferred
Experience with Lean Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, and Operational Excellence initiatives preferred
Proven experience in project management and process improvement
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and fabrication methods
Excellent leadership, communication, and team management abilities
Strong understanding of safety standards and environmental regulations
Stable work history with strong tenure preferred
Physical Requirements:
Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods as needed

Pay Details: $120,000.00 to $130,000.00 per year
