Responsibilities You will plan and conduct sampling operations to measure and document workplace chemical, biological, and physical hazards. You will coordinate and execute comprehensive exposure monitoring plans across multiple naval activities. You will manage the calibration, maintenance, repair, and procurement of specialized industrial hygiene testing instrumentation. You will develop instructional guides and train IH professionals and technicians on the use of new and technically advanced IH equipment. You will draft technical survey reports and enter exposure monitoring data into database systems like DOEHRS-IH. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-09 Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Practical knowledge of IH and related safety and environmental concepts, principles, and practices relating to a wide range of duties concerned with evaluating and measuring occupational health hazards in a variety of settings sufficient to: Complete moderately difficult and complex Industrial Hygiene Technician work. Write technical briefs, procedures, sampling surveys and instructional outlines. Apply given guidelines of a broad scope to complex work processes for providing technical instruction and training. Practical knowledge of IH survey and sampling procedures. Substantial knowledge of IH equipment practices, equipment operation and principles of design, diagnostic and repair techniques and technical writing skills required for maintaining equipment and calibration repair procedures. Knowledge relating to the selection, theory of operation, correct utilization, calibration, servicing and maintenance of field survey and laboratory equipment. Knowledge and proficiency with personal computers and MS Office Suite software products (e.g., Word, Excel, and/or Access) and industrial hygiene exposure data monitoring systems. GS-08 Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Practical knowledge of IH, safety, and environmental concepts to independently evaluate and measure standard occupational health hazards in a variety of routine settings. Working knowledge of IH survey and sampling procedures sufficient to draft basic technical summaries, complete routine surveys, and adapt established methods to fit specific workplace layouts. Knowledge of the operation, calibration, and routine maintenance of a variety of IH field survey and laboratory equipment, and the ability to troubleshoot minor operational issues. Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and industrial hygiene exposure data monitoring systems to accurately record historical occupational exposure data and format technical briefs. GS-07 Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Fundamental knowledge of IH and safety concepts sufficient to recognize common occupational health hazards and assist in routine workplace evaluations. Familiarity with basic IH survey and standard sampling procedures, sufficient to support the execution of exposure monitoring plans under moderate supervision. Working knowledge of the correct utilization and daily calibration of standard, common IH field survey equipment (e.g., noise dosimeters, air pumps). Knowledge and proficiency with personal computers, MS Office Suite products, and basic data entry/retrieval functions within industrial hygiene exposure data monitoring systems (e.g., DOEHRS-IH). GS-06 Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Basic knowledge and understanding of general occupational safety, environmental concepts, and standard workplace hazards. Practical skills in data organization and technical reading, sufficient to review basic safety guidelines and prepare standard forms for technical personnel. Ability to learn and apply specific, detailed instructions regarding the safe handling of basic field tools and preparation of sampling kits under direct supervision. High proficiency with personal computers and MS Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access) for compiling field data into spreadsheets, formatting reports, and navigating data monitoring systems. GS-05 Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Basic foundational understanding of general workplace safety and health principles. Strong general administrative and organizational skills, sufficient to support technical staff, process documents, and maintain accurate records. Ability to read, comprehend, and strictly follow detailed, step-by-step instructions for basic office and field support tasks. Solid proficiency with personal computers and MS Office Suite software (e.g., Word, Excel) to draft basic correspondence, track inventory, and perform routine data entry. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION GS-05 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation.
