Job Title: Mechanical Product Design Engineer
Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to design and develop innovative mechanical products from concept through proto@type, with a strong focus on camera- and sensor-based systems. You will create cutting-edge designs that integrate cameras, sensors, and supporting mechanical structures, emphasizing thermal management, optics, and robust performance. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams while independently driving projects forward and ensuring designs meet high standards of quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
Essential Skills
Must have 5+ years of experience in mechanical product design, preferably with a focus on camera and sensor-based systems to be considered.
Experience with proven product design experience, including design for manufacturing.
Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed mechanical drawings.
Experience with thermal simulations and thermal management in product design.
Hands-on experience with tolerance stack-ups and their application to mechanical assemblies.
Experience with testing, structured problem-solving, and root cause analysis.
Strong understanding of production design principles, including design for manufacturability and assembly.
Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and deliver high-quality designs with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
Design and develop innovative mechanical products from initial concept through proto@type, with a focus on camera-focused and sensor-focused solutions.
Create detailed 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks to support product development and documentation.
Apply thermal management principles and perform thermal simulations to ensure reliable operation of camera and sensor systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and software components.
Develop, document, and manage mechanical design requirements to ensure products meet or exceed performance, reliability, and quality standards.
Conduct design validation activities, including testing, tolerance stack-ups, and design reviews, to confirm design intent and performance.
Perform root cause analysis and structured problem-solving to resolve design and product issues.
Incorporate design for manufacturability and assembly principles into all designs to support efficient and cost-effective production.
Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and test reports.
Work independently with minimal supervision to drive projects forward, manage priorities, and meet project deadlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Proficiency with Ansys or similar simulation tools, particularly for thermal analysis.
Familiarity with optics design and machine vision applications.
Experience integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components in complex products.
Experience in developing camera-focused or sensor-focused products is highly desirable.
Work Environment
The role operates in a fast-paced product development environment where you will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams. You will primarily use tools such as SolidWorks and Ansys for mechanical design and simulation, along with standard testing and measurement equipment to validate designs. The position involves end-to-end involvement in the product lifecycle, from concept and requirements definition through proto@type build and testing, with a strong emphasis on practical, manufacturable solutions. Work is typically performed in an office and lab setting, with a focus on collaboration, technical rigor, and continuous improvement in product performance and quality.
