Typical work assignments will include: Provide IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems. Install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot commonly used hardware and software systems within the organization Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the position of Information Technology Specialist, at GS-2210-7/9, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below. To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience or Education. Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; Coordinate teleconference and distance learning activities; Installing new upgraded software; Collaborate to configure using knowledge of network standards and protocols and maintaining access control systems. OR Education: Successful completion of one (1) full year of graduate education (18 semester hours or the number of units your school uses to describe one graduate year of academic study) leading to a master's degree in a related field (e.g. computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management) which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do Information Technology Specialist work. OR Superior Academic Achievement: Possess a Bachelor's Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months AND possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; OR election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience or Education. Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level. Qualifying experience providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; Installs and distributes new or upgraded software to ensure customers receive current version of supported software; Assist converting user-developed content into workable web pages; Assist and installing routine updates and patches to existing programs and Maintaining access control systems. OR Education: Possess one of the following @types of education in a related field (e.g. computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
