Job Summary
At this time, only current PSEG employees are being considered.
This position reports to the Manager - Operations Claims and is responsible to investigate and defend PSEG when a third party alleges PSEG's negligence caused large property damage loss, personal injuries and/or when third party tortfeasors cause large loss damage to PSEG property.
Job Responsibilities
Protects the Company's assets and self-insured retention by performing investigations involving general, auto, and property damage liability claims, as well as personal injury claims which require field work as part of the investigation process.
Builds comprehensive investigation data by securing and evaluating company and non-company records (e.g., paper documents; electronic files).
Conducts interviews with customers, witnesses, internal clients, state/county/local officials, insurance company representatives, and other outside parties to obtain relevant facts.
Maintains and applies working knowledge of PSEG operating policies/standards and applicable tariffs, as well as civil and criminal statutes and case law to properly and promptly evaluate assigned matters.
Responds to and handles to resolution customer complaint issues as requested by the utility, customer relations and/or governmental affairs.
Upon analysis and establishment of both liability and damages, evaluates financial and other risks to the company. Negotiates and resolves these third party matters on behalf of PSEG within claim settlement authority.
Serves as 'On-Duty Officer' for emergencies and significant operating company matters, responding, when needed, to the field, on a 24/7/365 basis.
Defends the Company and its employees and, when required, seeks recovery for losses resulting from third-party transgressions and for damage to the Company's assets. Assists utility clients in recovering costs incurred for the relocation of electric and gas facilities and/or identify re-design options to avoid relocation costs.
Job Specific Qualifications
A minimum of 5 years Utility experience or equivalent investigation or insurance claim experience
Strong verbal, communication, interview, and negotiation skills.
Excellent communicator in both oral and written communications including the drafting of reports, memoranda, briefing papers.
Computer skills: Intermediate ability with Microsoft Word. Experience in PowerPoint and Excel.
Ability to work in hostile or unstructured situations, or under adverse conditions, including weather extremes, accident, fatality, conflagration and explosion scenes, and abnormal working hours.
Driver's license in good standing in state of domicile.
Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
Desired:
Interpretative knowledge of the energy industry operating infrastructure.
Bachelor's Degree
Industry certification in one of these fields: claims, law, insurance, audit, forensics
Fire Origin / Cause investigation experience.
Interpretative knowledge of civil, criminal, and labor law.
