Job Title: General Construction Shop Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on repairing, renovating, and preparing modular units and trailers in a shop environment. You will perform hands-on construction tasks such as drywall, flooring, and painting, while using a variety of hand and power tools to ensure each unit meets quality and safety standards before returning to the field.
Responsibilities
Tear out existing drywall and install new drywall according to the required layout for each project.
Use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete daily construction and repair tasks.
Operate a spray gun to paint the interior and exterior of trailers, ensuring clean, even coverage and proper finish.
Remove existing flooring and install new laminate or tile flooring based on customer specifications.
Accurately document completed work on each trailer using a paper-based tracking system.
Operate a forklift to move or lift materials and trailers around the yard when needed and when authorized to do so.
Clean windows, blinds, doors, floors, and walls in units that do not require replacement or major repairs.
Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area to support a safe shop environment.
Collaborate with other technicians to complete repairs efficiently and meet project timelines.
Inspect units for additional repair needs and report issues to the appropriate team members.
Essential Skills
Hands-on repair and construction experience, such as drywall work, flooring, and basic carpentry.
Proficiency using hand and power tools in a construction or maintenance setting.
Carpenter or general carpentry skills, including framing and installation work.
General shop helper or general labor with experience in construction or maintenance.
Mechanically inclined and comfortable troubleshooting basic repair issues.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on occasion.
Strong attention to safety and willingness to follow safety-first procedures.
Ability to accurately document work using a paper-based system.
Capability to work both independently and as part of a small technical team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience as a handyman or maintenance technician, such as maintenance work in apartment complexes.
Experience working in a construction, repair, or shop environment.
Comfort using a spray gun for painting interior and exterior surfaces.
Experience operating a forklift or similar material-handling equipment (if previously trained and authorized).
No specific certifications or licenses required for this role.

Work Environment
This position is based in a smaller, shop-style facility where modular units and trailers are dropped off for repair and then returned to construction sites. You will work closely with a team of approximately 15 technicians in a collaborative, hands-on environment. The role involves regular use of hand and power tools, spray painting equipment, and occasionally a forklift, with a strong emphasis on safety and proper equipment handling. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with additional hours and overtime during the spring and summer months when workload increases significantly. Work is performed indoors in the shop and occasionally in the yard area when moving or positioning units.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
