Job Description
DPR Construction is seeking an experienced MEP Superintendent to support the field execution of a large-scale data center construction project. This individual will serve as the on-site leader for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and commissioning activities, ensuring mission-critical infrastructure is installed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with aggressive construction and turnover milestones.
The ideal candidate will have 7-15 years of construction experience supporting highly technical projects such as data centers, mission-critical facilities, semiconductor plants, advanced manufacturing facilities, life sciences projects, or other complex infrastructure environments. The MEP Superintendent will partner closely with project management, field supervision, trade partners, design teams, commissioning agents, equipment vendors, and owners throughout construction and turnover.
Key Responsibilities
MEP Field Leadership
Lead day-to-day field execution for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and controls installations.
Coordinate and supervise MEP trade partners to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
Create and maintain strong collaboration between field teams, project management, design consultants, vendors, commissioning agents, and client stakeholders.
Serve as the primary field resource for resolving complex MEP installation and coordination challenges.
Lead coordination efforts between electrical, mechanical, controls, and startup teams to support critical system turnover requirements.
Scheduling & Project Execution
Drive installation sequencing to support aggressive project milestones, phased turnovers, and commissioning requirements.
Partner with project controls, schedulers, and project management teams to develop and maintain construction schedules.
Conduct short-interval planning and production tracking to ensure work progresses according to plan.
Monitor schedule impacts, identify risks, and develop recovery plans when necessary.
Coordinate equipment deliveries, rigging activities, vendor support, startup events, and commissioning schedules.
Support critical path execution related to long-lead electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
MEP Coordination & Constructability
Lead MEP coordination meetings and facilitate issue resolution between trades, consultants, and design disciplines.
Review drawings, specifications, BIM/VDC models, and shop drawings for constructability, clashes, and installation conflicts.
Ensure MEP systems are properly integrated with architectural, structural, telecommunications, controls, and security systems.
Coordinate field installation activities to minimize rework and maintain schedule commitments.
Assist with value engineering initiatives and constructability reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
Data Center Systems Oversight
Lead installation and turnover of mission-critical infrastructure commonly found in hyperscale and enterprise data centers, including:
Medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems
Generators and backup power systems
UPS systems and battery energy storage systems
Switchgear, transformers, and power distribution units (PDUs)
Chilled water and cooling distribution systems
CRAH and CRAC units
Building automation systems (BAS)
Electrical monitoring systems (EMS)
Fire alarm and fire protection systems
Fuel oil systems
Network and telecommunications infrastructure
Controls and integrated monitoring systems
Ensure critical systems meet reliability, redundancy, uptime, and operational performance requirements throughout installation and commissioning.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
Champion a proactive safety culture and maintain compliance with site safety standards and company safety programs.
Participate in QA/QC inspections and ensure installations comply with project specifications and industry standards.
Verify compliance with applicable codes including NEC, NFPA, IBC, IMC, and project-specific requirements.
Coordinate inspections, deficiency resolution, and acceptance testing activities with owners, inspectors, and commissioning teams.
Ensure mission-critical systems meet turnover and operational readiness requirements.
Commissioning & Turnover
Support integrated systems testing, startup, commissioning, and owner turnover activities.
Coordinate issue resolution during commissioning and ensure systems achieve operational readiness.
Work closely with commissioning providers, OEM vendors, controls contractors, and client operations teams.
Develop and manage punch list completion efforts to support successful project closeout.
Lead turnover planning for phased energization and white-space readiness milestones.
