This role supports major onsite projects at a chip manufacturing plant in Boise, Idaho, with a primary focus on plumbing and mechanical scopes of work. The Project Engineer provides comprehensive project management support to Project Managers by coordinating communication, scheduling, document control, and cost forecasting. The position collaborates closely with superintendents, forepersons, engineers, detailers, and leadership to deliver high-quality, profitable projects while maintaining strict adherence to safety and contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
Track, forecast, and report labor hours and material costs to support accurate project budgeting and profitability analysis.
Assist in the buyout and procurement of major equipment and subcontracts, ensuring alignment with project specifications and budget.
Expedite and track deliveries of major equipment and materials to support on-time project execution.
Maintain a working knowledge of general conditions, scopes of work, and specifications defined in project contracts and subcontracts.
Maintain and control project documents in compliance with internal standards and contractual requirements.
Collaborate with field labor supervision to plan, organize, and schedule project work, including preparation of integrated subcontract and contract schedules.
Review contract drawings, detail drawings, and specifications to ensure proper interpretation and execution of mechanical and plumbing scopes.
Prepare fabrication shop work packages, including detail drawing review, material takeoffs and buyouts, and development of man-hour fabrication budgets.
Ensure full compliance with the Safety Program at the jobsite and promote a strong safety culture.
Demonstrate regular attendance and promptness to support consistent project coordination.
Use project-related software tools such as MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, OneDrive, MS Teams, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Viewpoint Vista, Revit, and Stratus, with on-the-job training provided as needed.
Develop and apply an understanding of construction sequencing, particularly for mechanical and plumbing scopes of work.
Support the management of RFIs, change orders, and other construction documentation related to mechanical and plumbing systems.
Contribute to a collaborative and close-knit project team environment by communicating effectively with all project stakeholders.
Essential Skills
Experience in project engineering within construction, preferably with mechanical construction or industrial construction projects.
Knowledge of mechanical construction, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and process piping systems.
Experience or education related to construction management, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or chemical engineering (degree in these fields is desired).
Previous construction field experience, which may be accepted in lieu of a formal degree.
Understanding of RFIs, change orders, and the ability to read and interpret project plans related to mechanical scopes of work.
Proficiency with core productivity tools such as MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and collaboration platforms including MS Teams and OneDrive.
Ability to support scheduling activities and understand construction sequencing for mechanical and plumbing work.
Strong organizational skills to manage document control, cost tracking, and procurement activities.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with superintendents, forepersons, engineers, detailers, and project management teams.
Commitment to safety and adherence to jobsite safety programs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is highly desired.
Knowledge of Bluebeam and Procore is highly preferred.
Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Viewpoint Vista, Revit, Stratus, Smartsheet, and SharePoint, with the ability to learn new software tools through on-the-job training.
Background in mechanical engineering or industrial construction is beneficial.
Experience with estimation, change order management, and general construction project management.
Ability to thrive in a collaborative, close-knit team environment where cross-functional relationships are highly valued.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $85000.00/hr.
