Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP)
Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo (CMHIP) is an acute care psychiatric hospital that provides comprehensive psychiatric treatment services and medical services by multidisciplinary treatment teams. This includes: 24-hour nursing care and assessment; psychiatric intervention and evaluation; psychological services; psycho-social services; Occupational Therapy; Educational and Vocational Rehabilitation services; Recreational Therapy; and other services required of an acute care psychiatric hospital licensed in the state of Colorado. CMHIP provides psychiatric services for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.The purpose of this position is to provide personal grooming services to clients in state institutions. Services include shampooing, cutting, styling, shaving/trimming (including facial hair), braiding, and treatment recommendations for scalp and hair issues. The position is a member of the interdisciplinary teams providing cosmetology services that support daily living care and support for community re-entry.

Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo is a 24-hour facility
Part Time Working Hours: Vary, typically 5 hours, 4 days a week OR 7 Hours, 3 days a week
This position will comply with the Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health/Division of Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo /Unit: CMHHIP Units/Shops current working arrangements.

About the Position:This position provides hair care, shampooing, hair cutting, facial hair shaving/trimming, treatment, and recommendations for scalp and hair issues to patients at CMHHIP. The position works independently on hair services on the units or in one of the 3 beauty shops provided at CMHHIP. Keeps records of the services provided. Maintains shop/work area by sweeping, cleaning, and sterilizing area per regulatory requirements. Maintains patient safety by keeping tools and products out of reach and keeping work areas clean and uncluttered.
Cosmetology Services:
Determines the stability of a patient before providing hair services, and notifies unit staff if the patient does not appear stable enough to receive services.
Determines what personal grooming services would be appropriate for individual patients.
Determines when special hair care services for individual patients are needed.
Determines which care products are appropriate for a patient.
Determines scheduling for the provided services.
Due to the population, this position makes continuous decisions as to what methods are required to monitor hair products and equipment while providing services.
Determines how to maintain the environment of the beauty shop in the most professional manner while still maintaining the integrity, safety, and security.
Determines how best to follow all regulatory requirements related to Barber/Beauty shop maintenance, and disinfecting, including the maintenance and disinfection of all tools/equipment.
Instructional Services:
Provides instruction and education regarding general hair care and hygiene, as well as maintaining good nail care. Instruction can be provided on an individual basis or group basis, and will be provided as needed at the request of patients or unit staff.

Minimum Qualifications:Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
Current, valid Barber/Cosmetology licensure appropriate to the position from the State of Colorado's Office of Barber and Cosmetology Licensure

Preferred Qualifications:
3 years of professional experience as a licensed Barber or Cosmetologist
3 years experience braiding hair, including textured hair
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills

This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application (unless otherwise identified in the posting), and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.

CDHS Selection Process Explanation
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hours per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications. Be sure your application specifically addresses your qualifications, experience, work products, and accomplishments as they relate to the position and minimum requirements.
