Job Title: 1st Shift CNC Programmer | $28-$40/hr | Canton, OH
Job Description
This role focuses on programming and supporting a wide range of CNC machines in a job shop manufacturing environment on 1st shift (6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday). You will create and optimize CNC programs using CAM and CAD tools, ensure parts meet tight geometric tolerances, and collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to maintain high quality and efficient workflows.
Responsibilities
Write CNC programs in the language of the machine's controller and on CAM systems, and store programs on company network drives.
Analyze job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data to calculate dimensions, select tools, and determine appropriate machine speeds and feed rates.
Determine reference points, machine cutting paths, and hole locations, and compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures required for machining operations.
Observe machines on trial runs or conduct computer simulations to confirm that programs and machinery function properly and produce parts that meet specifications.
Compare CNC programs or computer printouts with original part specifications and blueprints to verify the accuracy of instructions.
Manage tool crib activities, including tool selection, inventory control, maintenance, and tool optimization for efficiency and quality.
Troubleshoot machining issues on the shop floor and refine programs and setups to improve processes and ensure part quality within tight GD&T tolerances.
Work with a wide variety of machining equipment, including mills, lathes, and other CNC and manual machines, to support production needs.
Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to support job workflow, resolve technical issues, and improve manufacturing processes.
Support production planning and scheduling by providing accurate setup information, cycle times, and tooling requirements.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing practices and process optimization.
Assist with set ups and ensure that machine operators have clear, accurate instructions and programs for each job.
Essential Skills
At least 5+ years of experience programming CNC machines in a job shop environment using CAM.
Strong CNC programming capabilities using AutoCAD and Mastercam or SolidWorks.
Hands-on experience with a wide variety of machining equipment, including CNC mills, lathes, and other manual and CNC machines.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and detailed specifications.
Proven experience working with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), including tolerances tighter than those typically used in aeronautic and medical industries.
Ability to work with G and M code (machine control language) to create, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs.
Experience with CAM programming and CAD programs for machining applications.
Ability to calculate dimensions, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates based on job requirements.
Skill in determining reference points, cutting paths, and hole locations and computing angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures.
Experience troubleshooting machining issues and improving processes to maintain part quality and efficiency.
Comfort working with many different machine brands and controls, including conversational controls such as Mazak/Mazatrol.
Strong understanding of CNC machining practices and set up procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and other CAD tools for creating and modifying part models and toolpaths.
Familiarity with Mastercam or similar CAM software for programming complex parts.

Work Environment

You will work a 1st shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime paid for hours worked over 8 each day. The environment includes a wide variety of CNC and manual machines, including mills, lathes, and other high-speed equipment, supported by CAM and CAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Mastercam, as well as ERP systems like SAP. The pay range for this position is $58000.00 - $84000.00/yr.
