Job Description
To provide special skills, maintenance, repair work, and physical labor necessary to keep Lake Superior College's buildings, equipment, and grounds operational, aesthetic, safe, and secure. Under limited supervision, this position will perform highly skilled jobs in a variety of trade areas, such as diagnosing issues, assessing the required repair needed, replaces parts, repair and adjust machinery, monitor HVAC systems, repairs buildings and equipment. Under limited supervisor, monitor, adjust, and make repairs to all hot water boilers, air conditioning systems, convertors and LSC's primary HVAC control system called "Medisys" on a daily basis. This position is also responsible for developing, implementing, and documenting all preventive maintenance routines and logs for the hot water boiler and HVAC systems and overseeing the work of helpers on these systems. Provide labor necessary to ensure grounds are aesthetic, safe and secure. The ground duties must be adaptable to the changing seasons.
This position is considered essential during natural and man-made disasters, and during inclement weather. Employee will report for duty as directed by their supervisor and is subject to recall during these @types of events.
Salary Range: $29.93 - $34.52 hourly; $62,494 - $72,078 annually
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a valid State of Minnesota a 1st Class boilers license, or above
Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, MPCA, NFPA, fire safety and health regulations and policies including a knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
Ability to safely use hand, power hand tools and specialized tools required for repairing institutional equipment and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending.
Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
Ability to provide work instructions to and over-see work of helpers.
Preferred Qualification
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds, and commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Ability to recognize and safely handle hazardous waste materials
Certifications for air and scissor lifts, skid steer, operation of mobile powered grounds equipment.
Safety training on all gas, diesel, or electric powered equipment and tools.
Assessment of spatial relationships/constraints is important.
Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, scissor and power lifts.
This position requires a cooperative working relationship with all other tradesmen, as well as faculty, staff, students and on occasion, the public. Most communication with these people is verbal.
The employee shall follow all safety rules and regulations and take all necessary precautions to prevent injury and illness.
