Job Description
This role focuses on reviewing, approving, and supporting engineering design changes for the Wheel Tractor Scraper product line across three machine platforms. You will serve as a key configuration and design reviewer for system-level changes, ensuring designs meet quality, manufacturability, and performance standards. The position requires close, daily collaboration with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams in an onsite environment in Decatur, IL.
Responsibilities
Review and approve engineering design changes for the Wheel Tractor Scraper product line across three machine platforms, ensuring consistency and adherence to standards.
Serve as the configuration and design reviewer for system-level changes, including electrical and hydraulic systems, submitted through Teamcenter Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
Conduct two-step design collaboration reviews, including model reviews in CREO to assess design intent, solution quality, and layout.
Perform specification and integration reviews to confirm fasteners, interfaces, cross-team impacts, and compliance with minimum design standards.
Review and approve detailed engineering drawings prior to release to suppliers, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Coordinate closely with platform technical leads to align design changes with platform-level requirements and strategies.
Collaborate with system teams, including electrical and hydraulics, to ensure proper integration of design changes.
Work with validation engineers to support testing of design changes and confirm that modifications meet performance and reliability requirements.
Partner with performance engineers to ensure design changes do not cause customer-impacting performance degradation.
Support manufacturing and factory engineering teams in Decatur to aid assembly, implementation, and resolution of production issues related to design changes.
Support supplier readiness by ensuring released designs are complete, manufacturable, and clearly documented.
Actively collaborate with engineers across disciplines to clarify design intent, resolve issues, and communicate design concerns effectively.
Use CREO to navigate 3D models, review geometry, and understand design intent as part of the design review process.
Utilize Teamcenter to manage integrated 3D models and follow ECN workflows for design changes.
Read and interpret engineering drawings to validate design details, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
Provide feedback and guidance to engineering peers to promote robust, manufacturable, and serviceable designs.
Work primarily onsite to support close, day-to-day engineering collaboration and timely resolution of design and production issues.
Adhere to established engineering standards, processes, and best practices while contributing to continuous improvement of design review procedures.
Essential Skills
At least 2 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in a design or production support environment, excluding internships.
Proficiency with CREO CAD, including the ability to navigate models, review geometry, and understand design intent.
Experience with Teamcenter, including familiarity with integrated 3D models and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) workflows.
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T.
Hands-on experience reviewing and supporting design changes in a production environment.
Mechanical engineering background with experience in mechanical design, machine design, and 3D modeling.
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and manufacturing teams in a highly interactive environment.
Comfort working with system-level changes involving electrical and hydraulic components.
Willingness to relocate to Decatur, IL at own expense if not currently local.
Comfort working in a highly collaborative, in-person engineering environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's-level engineering background preferred; candidates with a master's degree or higher will not be considered for this role.
background working with wheeled products is preferred.
Industry experience in earth-moving equipment, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, or automotive is beneficial.
Experience with new product development and supporting engineering changes throughout the product lifecycle.
Familiarity with GD&T practices applied to mechanical components and assemblies.
Exposure to electrical and hydraulic systems within complex machinery.
Strong communication skills to explain design concerns and collaborate across disciplines.
Demonstrated ability to support supplier readiness by ensuring designs are complete and manufacturable.
Work Environment
This role is primarily onsite in Decatur, IL to support close, day-to-day collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, validation, and performance teams. The position follows standard flexible work hours, with typical start times between approximately 6:30 AM and 8:30 AM and core collaboration hours around 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The environment is highly collaborative and in-person, centered around mechanical design and production support for heavy equipment. You will work extensively with CREO for 3D modeling and design review and with Teamcenter for managing integrated models and ECN workflows. Travel expectations are minimal to none, allowing you to focus on on-site engineering activities and direct interaction with factory and engineering staff.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
