The Lead Electrical Design Engineer directs, coordinates, and oversees the design, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of electrical engineering projects within assigned scopes. This role analyzes engineering schematics, specifications, drawings, and related data to determine critical design factors and ensures that all deliverables meet technical, contractual, and internal standards. The engineer designs and develops detailed layouts for electrical circuits, power distribution systems, industrial control panels, and industrial network architectures, while providing extensive support to both internal teams and external customers. Responsibilities
Direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority over the design, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of electrical engineering projects within assigned responsibilities.
Analyze engineering schematics, specifications, related data, and drawings to determine design factors and ensure accurate and efficient project execution.
Produce accurate, thoroughly self-verified electrical device and panel layouts, including motor control, I/O schematics, and complete bills of materials.
Review designs for compliance with engineering specifications, internal company standards, customer contract requirements, and related technical specifications.
Evaluate and approve design changes, updated specifications, and drawing releases to maintain design integrity and project alignment.
Design and develop detailed layouts for electrical circuits and systems for power distribution, industrial control panels, and industrial network architectures using prior examples and professional experience.
Develop and maintain control system schematics, including PLC-based control architectures and HMI graphics, to support industrial automation solutions.
Apply knowledge of UL508A, NEC, NFPA 70E, and local building codes to ensure all designs meet applicable regulatory and safety requirements.
Interface extensively with customers to provide technical support, including installation and commissioning support and design modifications needed to meet evolving project needs.
Collaborate with internal teams, such as project management, field services, and operations, to ensure designs are practical, implementable, and aligned with project schedules and budgets.
Support continuous improvement of design standards, templates, and processes to enhance quality, consistency, and efficiency across projects.
Document design decisions, maintain organized design records, and ensure all project documentation is complete, accurate, and up to date.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in electrical design for industrial or automation environments, including power distribution and control systems.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for creating and modifying electrical schematics, panel layouts, and associated drawings.
Ability to produce accurate, self-verified electrical device and panel layouts, motor control schematics, I/O schematics, and bills of materials.
Hands-on experience with control systems design, including PLC programming and HMI graphics for industrial applications.
Practical knowledge of electrical equipment and local building codes, including UL508A, NEC, and NFPA 70E.
Understanding of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures related to electrical design and industrial control systems.
Experience with network design for industrial network architectures supporting control and automation systems.
Strong analytical skills to interpret engineering schematics, specifications, and related technical documentation.
Ability to review designs for compliance with engineering specifications, company standards, and customer contract requirements.
Effective communication skills to interface extensively with internal and external customers and provide technical support.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate, and compliant design deliverables.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience designing industrial control panels and power distribution systems in a parcel handling, material handling, or similar industrial environment.
Familiarity with ESOP (employee stock ownership plan) environments or interest in long-term wealth-building opportunities through company ownership.
Experience working in fast-growing organizations with rapidly expanding project portfolios.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to evolving customer requirements.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical design solutions based on previous examples and professional experience.
Comfort working closely with installation and commissioning teams to support field implementation and troubleshooting.
Interest in contributing to the development of standards, best practices, and processes in a growing engineering organization.
Work Environment
This role is based in an onsite office environment with standard weekday hours, typically Monday through Friday from either 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The position supports a rapidly growing parcel integration organization that operates with the agility of a small company but pursues ambitious growth goals and large-scale projects. The work involves frequent use of engineering and design tools such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical, as well as collaboration with project teams, field personnel, and customers. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
