Job Title: Environmental Scientist / Environmental Technician
Job Description
This role offers an entry-level environmental professional the opportunity to gain hands-on field experience while contributing to meaningful environmental projects in the Miami area. The environmental scientist/technician supports land redevelopment, electric utility, remediation, chemical and petroleum spill response, and municipal solid waste landfill projects. The position emphasizes field work, technical training, and mentorship, with exposure to GIS software, environmental monitoring equipment, sampling techniques, and field safety procedures.
Responsibilities
Conduct site reconnaissance and field surveying using GIS software and hand-held devices.
Oversee monitoring well drilling activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety protocols.
Perform groundwater sampling and handle samples in accordance with established environmental procedures.
Oversee the advancement of soil borings and coordinate with drilling contractors as needed.
Collect soil samples and document sampling locations, methods, and conditions.
Conduct air monitoring to support environmental assessments and remediation projects.
Monitor gas vapor systems at project sites and record performance data.
Maintain mechanical field equipment in good working order and report any issues promptly.
Perform construction quality assurance activities to verify that field work meets design and regulatory requirements.
Prepare detailed field notes and environmental sampling log documentation for all site activities.
Perform equipment calibrations and maintain accurate equipment calibration logs.
Adhere to established engineering, construction, and operations and maintenance policies and procedures.
Perform all work in accordance with the company's Health and Safety Program and field safety procedures.
Support environmental site assessments, including Phase I and Phase II ESA activities, as assigned.
Assist with periodic site maintenance and upkeep at project locations.
Collaborate with project teams, communicate field observations, and contribute to report writing as needed.
Essential Skills
Associate's degree in Environmental Science or comparable environmental experience. (A bachelor's degree is not required for this role.)
Foundational knowledge of environmental science, including soil, groundwater, and air quality concepts.
Experience or familiarity with environmental field work such as sampling, remediation support, groundwater sampling, well installation, soil management, and environmental site assessment is preferred.
Ability to learn and follow detailed technical protocols and procedures for sampling and field operations.
Basic computer skills, including the ability to use standard office software and digital field tools.
Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing.
Ability to perform fieldwork in adverse outdoor conditions, including heat, humidity, heavy vegetation, and exposure to insects and wildlife.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time during field activities.
Ability and willingness to travel within the tri-county area and to perform overnight and extended out-of-town fieldwork when required.
Strong communication skills, including clear written documentation and accurate recordkeeping.
High attention to detail and solid judgment in following safety and technical procedures.
Completion of, or ability to complete, a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training program.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Familiarity with mechanical systems used for environmental remediation, such as treatment systems and related equipment, is a plus.
Experience with electrical systems, pumps, blowers, motors, and air compressors is advantageous.
Exposure to environmental site assessment work, including Phase I and Phase II ESA, is beneficial.
Interest in geology, environmental engineering, or related disciplines supports success in this role.
Ability to contribute to report writing and documentation for environmental projects.
Interest in working on projects that reduce methane emissions, repurpose contaminated properties, support alternative energy production, and contribute to carbon sequestration.

Work Environment
This position is primarily field-based in the Miami tri-county area, including Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties, with some work performed in an office setting in the Palmetto Bay area. Field work takes place in challenging outdoor conditions, including high heat and humidity, heavy vegetation, insects, snakes, and both developed and undeveloped sites. Work may occur around earthmoving equipment, vehicles, and active construction or landfill operations. The role requires frequent travel to project locations and may involve overnight and extended out-of-town assignments. You will use GIS software, hand-held field devices, monitoring equipment, sampling tools, and mechanical systems associated with environmental remediation and landfill gas or vapor systems. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
