Job Description
This role is for a Systems Engineer who specializes in requirements development and decomposition, with a strong focus on the left side of the Systems Engineering V model. The engineer will ensure that high-level mission and system needs translate into clear, traceable, and testable requirements for complex radar and sensor systems supporting next-generation air and missile defense. The position requires an active Secret clearance and close collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Develop, analyze, and decompose system-level requirements into clear, detailed lower-level specifications.
Support the full requirements lifecycle on the left side of the Systems Engineering V, from concept and stakeholder needs through detailed system and subsystem requirements.
Establish, maintain, and manage bidirectional requirements traceability (top-down and bottom-up) across the system hierarchy.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure alignment, completeness, and consistency of requirements across hardware, software, and system elements.
Support system architecture and design efforts by validating requirements, refining them based on design feedback, and resolving gaps or conflicts.
Apply requirements traceability methodologies and best practices to ensure that all requirements remain testable, verifiable, and aligned with mission objectives.
Use requirements management and modeling tools such as DOORS and Cameo (or similar) to document, track, and analyze requirements.
Translate high-level operational and stakeholder needs into detailed, actionable, and measurable technical requirements.
Contribute to reviews and technical discussions related to requirements, architecture, and system design for distributed radar and sensor systems.
Essential Skills
Proven experience with requirements development and decomposition for complex systems.
Strong understanding of the Systems Engineering V model with a specific focus on the left side (concept, requirements, and architecture).
Hands-on experience with requirements traceability methodologies and tools.
Demonstrated ability to translate high-level operational or stakeholder needs into detailed, actionable technical requirements.
Active Secret security clearance.
Systems engineering, with emphasis on requirements-focused activities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working on Department of Defense (DoD) or other government programs.
Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
Familiarity with modeling and architecture tools such as Cameo or similar model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools.
Understanding of concepts related to distributed radar, sensor networks, or air and missile defense systems is beneficial.
