Job Description
This position provides first level support that successfully guides students through academic and non-academic challenges by instructing students on higher education systems and practices to increase student enrollment, engagement, retention, and completion from the point of prospect relations to graduation and job placement. Working in tandem with the faculty program advisors, liberal arts and sciences advisors, and the faculty counseling position, this role acts as the primary liaison to the new and currently enrolled student populations. Through rapport and use of strong interpersonal skills, the success advisor intentionally builds active relationships with students throughout the semester offering comprehensive support through all aspects of the higher education experience. This role also promotes awareness and understanding of the College's mission and programs to stakeholders both inside and outside the of the institution and helps create an equitable learning environment by making data-based decisions within a team environment.
Responsibilities:
Customer Service
Act as a comprehensive advocate for students to ensure their success. Assist with academic advising, help to navigate the admissions and financial aid processes, connect with college and community resources, and facilitate involvement in student clubs, activities, or athletics.
Evaluate and improve first year student experiences by addressing equity gaps.
Provide comprehensive student support, including assistance with basic needs.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Salary Range:
25.67 - 37.26 USD Hourly
Minimum Qualifications
Two-years of related work experience
Proficiency with a variety of word processing, database and web-based applications sufficient to accurately collect data and create reports
The ability to work with minimal supervision and ability to make decisions independently regarding workload, problems or situations
Excellent organizational, planning, and management skills
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of student development.
Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and oral) in order to communicate effectively with students, employees without supervision or review
Willing to work as part of a team
Preferred Qualification
2-year degree or Baccalaureate Degree in a related field, i.e. Human Resources, Public Administration, Social Work, or Education
Experience in higher education
Experience in developing academic plans
Evidence of commitment to the success of diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty.
Knowledge of public, private, and community social services and resource agencies sufficient to provide referrals to students
Knowledge of data privacy practices and FERPA
Experience providing academic and/or employment case management
Knowledge of the functions of Academic Affairs and of Northland Community and Technical College
