Fleet and Equipment Mechanic/Manager

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Mechanic/Equipment Manager to oversee and maintain our entire fleet, including trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, small tools, and all other equipment required to support our construction operations. This position is responsible for the overall maintenance, readiness, compliance, organization, and cost management of the company's fleet, equipment, shop, and equipment yard. We are looking for a proactive, resourceful individual who takes pride in equipment reliability and ensuring crews have safe, compliant, and job ready equipment when they need it. The Equipment Manager has final approval on equipment readiness. Equipment should not leave the yard unless it is properly maintained, safe, compliant, and ready for the intended work.

Fleet & Equipment Management

Manage and maintain all company owned trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, small tools, and specialty construction equipment

Ensure all equipment is job-ready and available when needed

Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules

Perform inspections and identify maintenance needs before failures occur

Maintain equipment appearance, safety features, and operating condition, including seats, glass, decals, handles, jacks, tires, lights, and other wear items

Monitor equipment condition as well as recurring repairs and recommend repairs, upgrades, replacements, or disposal when appropriate

Manage repair budgets and maintenance costs

Shop & Yard Management

Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop environment

Keep parts, fluids, and supplies organized and properly stocked

Plan parts runs and service trips efficiently to minimize downtime

Maintain an organized equipment yard

Asset Management

Manage GPS tracking systems

Manage fuel keys and fuel tracking systems

Maintain digital records and asset information

Assist with equipment purchasing decisions and price comparisons

Research equipment specifications, repair procedures, parts availability, and replacement options

Mechanical Repairs & Maintenance

Diagnose and repair diesel, hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and electric-over-hydraulic systems

Maintain and repair semi tractors, trucks, trailers, and construction equipment

Replace components properly including switches, cables, controls, sensors, hydraulic components, and wear items

Perform repairs to manufacturer standards and company expectations

Coordinate specialty repairs when outside vendors are required

Respond to field breakdowns and perform or coordinate repairs to minimize downtime

Transport equipment as needed

Compliance & Record Keeping

Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records using company software

Ensure all maintenance records, receipts, invoices, and documentation are entered and turned in promptly

Coordinate and manage DOT compliance requirements

Coordinate annual inspections and certifications, whether performed internally or by a third-party

Maintain service records, inspection records, and repair history for all vehicles and equipment

Track preventative maintenance schedules and ensure required services are completed on time

Qualifications

Strong mechanical background in construction equipment and diesel engines

Experience troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Strong organizational and communicationskills

Computer proficiency and willingness to maintain digital records

Ability to research equipment issues, technical manuals, parts availability, and repair procedures to identify practical and cost-effective solutions

Valid driver's license

Must provide personal mechanic tools

DOT compliance and inspection experience

Welding and fabrication experience preferred but not required

Experience with aerial equipment, concrete equipment, and specialty construction equipment

Expectations

Complete repairs correctly the first time and maintain a high standard of workmanship

Communicate professionally with field personnel and management

Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and sound judgement when diagnosing problems and researching repair solutions

Follow company core values and work effectively with team members

Treat company equipment and resources as if they were their own

We are not looking for someone who simply repairs equipment when it breaks. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the fleet and takes personal responsibility for ensuring every piece of equipment is safe, compliant, reliable, organized, and ready to work. The right candidate is proactive rather than reactive, identifies issues before they become costly problems, and continuously looks for ways to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and control costs.
