Description
This contract Engineer 2 assignment will provide support to the TELC (Transmission Line Design) organization at Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). This assignment will perform electrical clearance analysis, create line rating information for transmission lines, develop line design data, and perform other related engineering support activities as listed below. The person in this assignment will gain extensive experience in performing electrical clearance analysis of electric transmission lines. This assignment will also be responsible for facilitating training to junior engineers as requested by the BPA manager. RESPONSIBILITES - Perform line electrical clearance analysis in support of line design, line rating, vegetation management, and estimating processes. Perform sag and tension calculation for analysis of conductor, ground wire and fiber optic cables to provide adequate ground and structure clearances. Assess the results of the electrical clearance analysis, span analysis, stress/strain, and vegetation management tools and compile in a report for Line Rating Subject Matter Expert (SME) review. Research and review engineering design drawings, schematics, specifications, structure/tower lists, one line and phasing diagrams, and sag instructions /stringing charts, resolve discrepancies and update documents as necessary. Perform engineering calculations and analyses involving thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, stress analysis, and AC/DC electrical circuits and use that information to compile reports for Line Rating SME review. Process survey data and import it into the relational database. Apply coding skills to develop custom analytical tools, model complex systems, and perform engineering analysis, which includes using tools like Power Query for data extraction and transformation Provide line rating support to design teams during scoping of transmission projects. Provide training to junior engineers in electrical clearance analysis, as directed by the BPA manager. Review industry standards and provide feedback to the Line Rating SME on industry developments related to electrical clearance and line rating. Provide feedback to Line Rating SME in the formulation of line rating standards, processes and guides. This position IS OPEN to Foreign Nationals. This position is located in Vancouver, Washington. Valid U.S. Driver's License is required. First Aid/AED/CPR Certification required within 30 days of assignment start. Worker/Employer is responsible for maintaining current certification. REQUIRED Education & Corresponding Experience Bachelor's Degree from an ABET accredited college/university in mechanical, electrical or civil engineering is required. 5+ years of engineering experience is required. 2+ years of engineering experience in transmission line design & analysis, or construction is required Required Technical Skills & Experience 2+ years' experience with the following: Experience using PLS-CADD, sufficient to perform electrical clearance analysis of transmission line using PLS-CADD/LiDAR models. Must have solid knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, stress analysis, and AC/DC electrical circuits to perform and interpret results of automated calculations and analyses. Must have solid knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to components and facilities found on a regional transmission system. Must be able to analyze, troubleshoot, and reverse engineer data involving the catenary and electrical clearance analyses Preferred Skills & Experience: Experience using Bentley ProjectWise or similar program Experience using MS SharePoint or similar program Experience using Power Query in Excel or similar program

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $48.00/hr.
