ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
Using computer-aided drafting software creates accurate and complete structural details by referencing engineering computations, utilizing engineering theory, reviewing project-specific data, and following proper detailing procedures and office standards
Obtains records and information for use in structural details. Verifies and makes corrections and additions to structural details
Calculates estimated quantities of materials required for contract bidding, construction, and project costs
Communicate with designers to ensure structural drawings comply with engineering computations
Recommends minor adjustments in design to achieve simplicity and constructability
Utilizes trigonometry, algebra, and geometry to calculate reinforcing steel lengths and laps, girder piece lengths, cross-frame lengths, gusset plate dimensions, etc.
Participates in the review of drafting standards
Participates in technician meetings to review detailing standards
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of drafting principles, practices, standards, and office policies that relate to structural detailing
Understanding of the practical applications of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
Skilled in the use of computer-aided design and drafting software (Microstation and AutoCAD), word processing (Word or WordPerfect), and spreadsheet (Excel or Quattro Pro) computer applications
Ability to produce clean, legible, and organized work
Ability to give attention to details and work under pressure
Ability to work well with others
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Physical Science)
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Transportation) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Assistant
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Transportation) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Assistant

Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus
Acceptance of a permanent, full-time position posted for public recruitment
Temporary employees accepting a full-time position
Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public
One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
