The Deductions Specialist reviews, analyzes, and processes customer deduction claims to ensure accuracy, compliance with promotional agreements, and proper financial classification. This role works closely with brokers, accounting, and cross-functional teams to resolve deduction discrepancies, reconcile trade spend activity, and maintain audit-ready documentation in a fast-paced consumer packaged goods environment.
Responsibilities
Evaluate customer deduction claims by reviewing supporting materials provided by brokers and internal systems.
Cross-check promotional agreements against customer invoices to confirm accuracy of pricing, timing, and product details.
Ensure deductions are properly supported, justified, and aligned with approved promotions.
Identify inconsistencies in deduction claims and ensure proper documentation is maintained for resolution and audit readiness.
Partner directly with broker teams to research and resolve deduction discrepancies in a timely manner.
Coordinate with Accounting to classify and process non-promotion-related deductions accurately.
Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to ensure timely resolution and accurate clearing of outstanding deductions.
Use trade management platforms such as AR7 or similar systems to review promotional activity and financial data.
Confirm that deductions align with approved promotional plans and system records, escalating issues when necessary.
Assist in tracking and reconciling trade spend activity to ensure accurate reporting.
Interpret promotional contract terms and verify their proper application to customer invoices.
Analyze key contract components such as rates, promotional periods, and eligible products to validate deductions.
Ensure adherence to contractual terms and internal compliance standards in all deduction-related activities.
Review a high volume of deductions per day, with performance measured on throughput and accuracy.
Essential Skills
1-2+ years of experience in deductions, accounts receivable, or a related accounting function.
Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and deduction management processes.
Ability to interpret contracts and analyze financial documentation, including invoices and promotional agreements.
Prior experience reviewing deductions and supporting documentation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
Experience using trade management or accounts receivable systems such as Telus AR7 or similar platforms.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies.
Strong problem-solving skills and analytical mindset.
Comfort working cross-functionally and communicating effectively with external partners such as brokers.
Ability to manage a high volume of deductions, with performance expectations around reviewing 50-100 deductions per day.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry preferred.
Experience is prioritized over formal degree requirements for this role.
Background in accounts receivable, deductions, or accounting-related positions.
Familiarity with trade spend tracking and reconciliation processes.
Ability to adapt to different trade management or financial systems beyond Telus AR7.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Work Environment
This is a fully onsite position with a standard daytime schedule, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The role operates in a professional office setting, working closely with accounting, finance, and broker teams. You will regularly use trade management platforms such as Telus AR7 or similar systems, along with Microsoft Excel for data analysis, pivot tables, and lookup functions. The environment emphasizes accuracy, timeliness, and collaboration, with performance measured in part by the ability to review approximately 50-100 deductions per day while maintaining high quality and compliance with internal standards.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
