Job Title: Skilled Labor (Construction) - Foreman / Lead Carpenter
Job Description
This role is for an experienced Commercial Construction Foreman / Lead Carpenter who leads field operations on a wide range of commercial projects. You will oversee crews of carpenters and laborers, perform project layout, and complete hands-on carpentry work including framing, drywall, and finish tasks. The position focuses on NYS prevailing wage commercial projects such as schools, municipal buildings, mixed-use commercial spaces, offices, gas stations, fast-food restaurants, and commercial upfits, ensuring all work meets high standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a crew of carpenters and laborers throughout the duration of each project.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements and plan work sequences.
Perform complete project layout and job site layout, including establishing reference points and elevations.
Measure, cut, and install metal framing, drywall, exterior metal framing, exterior sheathing, and other building materials using hand and power tools.
Install structures and fixtures such as interior and exterior framing, drywall, doors, windows, frames, flooring, trim, and finish carpentry elements.
Inspect, repair, and replace damaged framework, structures, and fixtures as needed to maintain quality standards.
Complete punch list items efficiently and accurately to close out projects to client satisfaction.
Assign daily tasks to crew members and monitor progress to ensure work stays on schedule and within project scope.
Collaborate with other construction professionals, trades, and site personnel to complete projects on time and within budget.
Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and company policies at all times.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site, promoting safe work practices for all crew members.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and report any maintenance needs promptly.
Use measuring tools accurately, including tape measures, to ensure precise cuts and installations.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding project status, issues, and resource needs.
Work overtime during the week and occasionally on Saturdays as project demands require.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial construction or residential remodel construction as a project foreman or lead carpenter.
Proven experience as a carpenter in commercial construction environments.
Demonstrated experience managing and leading a crew of carpenters and laborers.
Ability to perform complete project layout and job site layout.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
Proficiency in using basic hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
Strong understanding of commercial carpentry techniques, methods, and best practices.
Hands-on experience with metal framing, drywall construction, drywall finishing, and exterior metal framing.
Ability to measure accurately, including proficient use of a tape measure.
Experience with finish carpentry, including installation of trim, doors, windows, and related components.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills in a construction setting.
Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor for extended periods.
Good communication and teamwork skills for effective collaboration on site.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to various job sites.
Possession of OSHA 10 certification.

Experience working on commercial projects such as schools, municipal buildings, state office buildings, mixed-use commercial spaces, office spaces, gas stations, fast-food restaurants, and commercial upfits.
Ability to manage punch lists and close-out activities efficiently.
Experience assigning daily tasks and overseeing crew productivity and quality.
Familiarity with local building codes and safety regulations related to commercial construction.
Journeyworker-level experience is strongly preferred for top pay consideration, supported by references that can verify work history.
Strong organizational skills to coordinate multiple tasks and priorities on active job sites.

Work Environment
The work is 100% commercial in nature, with a project portfolio that includes commercial offices, schools, state office buildings, and mixed-use commercial spaces. You will work primarily on active construction sites, performing hands-on carpentry and supervisory tasks using standard commercial construction tools, including a full range of hand and power tools for metal framing, drywall, sheathing, and finish carpentry. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday starting at 7:00 a.m., with overtime worked during the week and occasionally on Saturdays based on project needs. Most projects are NYS prevailing wage, and pay rates vary by worksite county and experience level, particularly for those with journeyworker-level backgrounds. The environment is fast-paced, safety-focused, and highly collaborative, with field-based work that requires appropriate construction-site attire and personal protective equipment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
