Responsibilities You will perform engine company inspections, and building pre-plans, looking for infractions and the locations of local alarm and sprinkler systems, power, water, and gas shutoffs, noting all hazardous storage or conditions inside and outside. You will carry out evacuation drills, reset sprinkler and local alarm systems. You will perform station, grounds, apparatus, and equipment maintenance. You will respond to structure fires, serving as a hydrant man, hose-man, makes forcible entry, ventilates structures, makes rescue, and performs salvage and overhaul operations, and other duties as required. You will respond to downed aircraft or aircraft emergencies, operates hand lines, turrets to control and protect aircrews and rescue men entering the aircraft. You will respond to medical emergencies and provide for the rescue and on scene stabilization for victims of fire, sudden illness, accidental injuries, childbirth and other events requiring medical personnel. You will perform emergency communication duties in the absence of the regularly assigned automotive equipment dispatcher answering all routine and emergency telephone calls, dispatching appropriate personnel, vehicles and equipment. You will use computers and computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems to record all emergency response data, operate and monitor a variety of reporting\recording systems. You will monitor local and off base emergency radio frequencies, maintains dispatch logs, records and reports used by fire department. You will ensure all communication and alarm systems are in a proper state of operational readiness. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Inspecting facilities and structures for fire hazards and fire protection deficiencies, interpreting code regulations and directives, conducting troubleshooting as required for facilities, AND responding to emergency lifesaving medical care. You will be required to participate in the Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program You will be required to maintain compliance with NFPA 1582 (Fire Fighter Physical Medical Evaluations), NFPA 1583 (Fire Fighter Fitness Program Requirements You will be required to participate in the mandatory F&ESD Physical Fitness Program to maintain a level and degree of fitness needed to perform all duties. You must possess a current National Registry or State Certification as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT/AED). You will be required to possess and maintain certification a FIREFIGHTER I by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard. Obtain the Inland County Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) status within 60 days of hire You will be required to possess and maintain a current Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) for structural apparatus. You may be required to work in high elevations and/or below ground in confined workspaces. You will be required to work hours and conditions under close contact with supervisors for long periods of time. You will be subject to adverse weather and/or harsh working conditions; burns, smoke inhalation, noxious fumes, falling materials, and explosions. You will be exposed to communicable diseases, unsanitary conditions and traumatic injuries. You will be required to possess and maintain the physical stamina, agility, and mental stability to work under conditions where intense periods of physical exertion and mental stress, under adverse conditions, may be encountered. You must be able to work under emergency conditions giving clear, definitive instructions, in a decisive manner to firefighting forces and other emergency service personnel. This position is performed indoors, outdoors, in all @types of weather conditions and is subject to heat, cold, smoke, wind, humidity, and stress. This position requires the use of specialized protective clothing and respiratory protection. This position is subject to exposure from hazardous materials that include chemicals, fuels, biological agents, radioactive particles, and explosives. Education Specialized experience at the GS-05 level may be substituted with the successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study leading to a bachelor degree; OR A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Your percentage of the required education plus your percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
