Responsibilities You will manage the stable facility and the well-being of its animals, primarily horses and mules to ensure operational readiness for the military pack animal training program. You will maintain the barn, fenced irrigated pastures, and corrals, ensuring they are secure, clean, and in good repair. You will feed, groom and monitor the health and condition of horses and mules. You will act as a facilitator for daily training exercises, providing essential support to both seasoned animal packing instructors and novice students. You will hold ultimate responsibility for the complete lifecycle of physical care for the animal stock, a critical role that directly impacts the success of the formal military program for pack animal employment You will conduct meticulous pre-mission health assessments. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: employing advanced animal packing techniques to transport specialized military equipment and supplies through challenging mountainous terrain. Managing large animal herd health, including daily care, advanced farrier duties, and holding ultimate responsibility for the complete lifecycle of physical care for the animal stock. Instructing military personnel on professional horsemanship, packing procedures, and animal welfare best practices.
