Job Summary:
The Section of Pediatric Colorectal Surgery full-time (1.0 FTE - 40 hours per week) faculty position available at the rank of Instructor
Key Responsibilities:
Weekly Spina Bifida / Spinal Cord Injury (SB/SCI) multidisciplinary clinic
Colorectal multidisciplinary clinic
Monthly SB/SCI transition of care (adolescent) clinic
Monthly SB/SCI clinic in Colorado Springs
Bowel Management clinic (including 1-2 half-day clinic sessions per month)
Half-day pre-operative multidisciplinary clinic with Anesthesia, Social Work, and Psychology for medically complex patients
Three days per month dedicated to follow-up telehealth appointments
Additional telehealth clinic sessions
Dedicated weekly billable telehealth clinical sessions
Weekly inpatient patient review and care planning sessions
Coverage of the colorectal surgery (CRS) inpatient service twice a week
Responsibilities including rounding, writing orders, admissions, discharges, care coordination, patient assessment, and education
Active participation in the monthly bowel management program and daily clinical review during bowel management week
Management and coordination of care for patients with complex chronic conditions (e.g., cardiac, renal, neurologic comorbidities) undergoing surgical evaluation
Pre-operative optimization and evaluation of high-risk patients
Post-operative care and acute admissions management
Collaboration with multidisciplinary surgical and medical teams
Triaging and responding to MyChart messages
Coordinating care plans across inpatient and outpatient settings
Supporting seamless transitions of care

in the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has one (1) for a Pediatric General Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician's Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) for the Pediatric Colorectal Center. Provide independent, high-quality clinical care for pediatric colorectal surgery patients at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO), across inpatient and outpatient settings.Deliver comprehensive care across multiple specialized multidisciplinary clinics, including:Conduct outpatient telehealth visits, including:Participate in inpatient care management, including:Support specialized programmatic care delivery, including:Ensure safe and coordinated surgical care by supporting:Collaborate closely with pediatric colorectal surgeons, pediatric general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, intensivists, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomesMaintain professional communication with referring providers and external partnersServe as a primary APP for designated specialty clinics and programs, ensuring continuity of care and program consistencyPerform care coordination and patient communication duties, including:Participate in clinical research activities, quality improvement initiatives, and program development efforts as applicableMaintain appropriate licensure and participate in evolving multi-state practice opportunities as applicable (e.g., telehealth expansion)
this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.
The Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Colorado includes a diverse array of faculty with expertise in various subspecialties to provide expert clinical and surgical services to our patients. The Division has nearly 20 surgeons and 30 Advanced Practice Practitioners as well as nursing staff dedicated for top level patient care. The Colorectal Surgery Section within the Division, which is the only such center in the region, includes internationally renowned faculty as well as specially trained Advanced Practice Practitioners and clinical staff dedicated to serving this patient population. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician's Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (NP) and the Medical Review Board (PA)
Acute Care Certification, as follows: o Effective July 1, 2022, only NPs with AC certification will be considered for positions that require direct patient management in the ED and inpatient clinical areas. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in general surgery, trauma, critical care, and pediatrics preferred.
First assist or surgical assist certification and experience preferred.
Preference will be given to Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant candidates who have experience
Experience in general surgery and Colorectal preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The ideal candidate has previous pediatric experience, inpatient and outpatient experience, good organizational and communication skills, knows how to work on a multidisciplinary team and coordination of care.
