Job Title: Construction Project Engineer / Field Engineer
Job Description
The Construction Project Engineer / Field Engineer supports project teams in delivering commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. You work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are executed safely, on time, and within scope. In this primarily field-based role, you coordinate daily site activities, manage project documentation, and help maintain quality and safety standards across a variety of industrial, automotive, higher education, and healthcare projects.
Responsibilities
Support day-to-day field operations and coordinate subcontractors and trades to keep work progressing according to plan.
Track and manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders to maintain accurate project documentation and communication.
Perform regular site walks, inspections, and quality checks to verify work aligns with project requirements.
Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, as well as preparing project documentation and reporting.
Coordinate with clients, design teams, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain alignment on project goals.
Ensure all work complies with project specifications, construction drawings, and applicable safety standards.
Assist with project closeout activities, including punch lists, turnover documentation, and final inspections.
Support document control processes, including daily reporting and record keeping for field activities.
Collaborate with field teams to address issues in real time and support effective problem solving in dynamic site conditions.
Essential Skills
At least 2 years of experience as a Project Engineer working on commercial construction projects.
Hands-on experience with field coordination of subcontractors and trades on active job sites.
Proficiency in managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and document control processes.
Experience with daily reporting and maintaining accurate construction project documentation.
Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
Ability to travel as required to support multiple job sites.
Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced field environment.
Effective communication skills for collaborating with field teams, clients, and design professionals.
Solid foundation in construction project coordination and project management principles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working on industrial, automotive, and higher education construction projects.
Experience supporting projects in healthcare or similar complex facility environments.
Experience working with a general contractor delivering commercial construction work.
Construction management and project coordination experience across multiple stakeholders.
Problem-solving mindset with the ability to respond to changing field conditions and constraints.
Interest in career growth into Project Manager or Superintendent roles through hands-on field experience.
Ability to build collaborative relationships and contribute to a team-driven, safety-focused culture.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when handling project documentation and reporting.
Work Environment
This is a primarily field-based role supporting active construction sites across Southeast Michigan. Projects may be located at large industrial and automotive facilities, university campuses, or healthcare facilities. You work in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders and ongoing site activity, and you may support multiple smaller special projects or one larger construction project at a time. You collaborate with a sizeable team that includes a large self-perform workforce and a substantial full-time staff, within a culture that emphasizes collaboration, safety, and professional growth. The role involves regular presence on construction sites, coordination with field teams, and exposure to typical construction site conditions and equipment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
