Registered Nurse - Women's Health & OBGYN Clinic
Job Description
This role supports a busy women's health and OBGYN practice by coordinating antepartum care, assisting providers and nursing staff in clinic, and ensuring high-quality patient experiences. You will manage patient intake, follow-up testing and procedures, prior authorizations, and lab result reviews while maintaining clinical competency and contributing to a collaborative, professional care environment.
Responsibilities
Coordinate care for antepartum patients, including arranging follow-up testing or procedures, scheduling appointments, processing physician orders, and organizing hospital admissions.
Intake patients efficiently and compassionately, gathering medical histories and preparing them for visits with providers.
Assist providers and nursing staff in the clinic with patient care activities, procedures, and examinations as needed.
Review patient lab results and imaging studies, discuss abnormal findings with the physician, and follow up with patients regarding treatment plans prescribed by the physician.
Monitor task queues and ensure timely completion of clinical and administrative tasks related to patient care.
Collect and process prior authorizations for prescriptions to support timely access to medications.
Assist with clinical inventory management, including handling and monitoring sterilization devices and supplies.
Maintain clinical competency in all areas of responsibility to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
Orient new clinical staff and sign off on clinical competencies to support their successful integration into the team.
Actively participate in research efforts through accurate data collection and contribution of ideas for process or care improvements.
Promote the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the medical group and department by understanding and complying with established policies and procedures.
Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating a professional, caring, and courteous attitude toward co-workers, patients, and guests.
Support consistent and reliable clinic operations by maintaining regular attendance as assigned and rotating to other locations as needed.
Prepare charts in advance of patient visits, ensuring all necessary documentation, orders, and information are complete and accurate.
Work collaboratively with other medical assistants and a team of providers to manage patient flow throughout the day.
Essential Skills
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for the state of Virginia.
Experience as a medical assistant, registered medical assistant (RMA), or certified medical assistant (CMA), or recent graduation from an accredited medical assisting program.
At least 1+ year of experience in women's health, OBGYN, reproductive medicine, or fertility.
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience, with the ability to learn and use EPIC.
Ability to perform patient intake, including history gathering, vital signs, and chart preparation.
Competence in reviewing lab results and imaging studies and communicating findings to physicians.
Strong organizational skills to manage task queues, scheduling, and follow-up activities.
Excellent interpersonal skills with an outgoing and friendly demeanor to support a welcoming patient experience.
Ability to orient and support new clinical staff, including assessing and signing off on competencies.
Commitment to maintaining clinical competency and following established policies and procedures.
CPR certification (preferred).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience or strong interest in women's health, OBGYN, reproductive medicine, or fertility services.
Experience working in a high-volume clinic environment with multiple providers and a steady patient flow.
Familiarity with prior authorization processes for prescriptions and coordination with payers.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to research through data collection and idea generation.
Ability to travel occasionally to other clinic locations (less than once per week).
Professional demeanor and the ability to serve as a positive role model for patients and colleagues.
Comfort working collaboratively with another medical assistant and a multidisciplinary team.
Work Environment
This position is based in a women's health and OBGYN clinic operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The clinic typically sees approximately 16 patients in the morning and 15 in the afternoon, supported by 3 to 5 providers and at least one other medical assistant. You will work in a fast-paced, team-based environment that relies on EPIC as the primary electronic medical record system and uses task queues to manage clinical workflows. Occasional travel to other clinic locations may be required, generally less than once per week. The role involves direct patient interaction, chart preparation, coordination of care, and collaboration with nursing and provider staff in a professional clinical setting. The dress code requires conservative, solid-color scrubs appropriate for a patient-facing healthcare environment. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
