Job Title: Medical AssistantJob Description
This role provides hands-on clinical and administrative support in a family medicine setting, focusing on patient intake, clinical preparation, and coordination of care. The Medical Assistant works closely with providers and the care team to ensure efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and a high standard of patient service in a learning-focused environment.
Responsibilities
Perform patient intake by obtaining and documenting vital signs, chief complaint, medication list, allergy list, and smoking status, and prepare patients for their visit.
Prepare exam rooms for patient visits by ensuring they are clean, organized, and fully stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
Sterilize instruments after use and maintain medical equipment according to established protocols.
Document all clinical interventions accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record.
Review patient charts for completeness, including test results and information required for billing and follow-up.
Review upcoming appointments and scan for additional medical record information needed for the visit.
Obtain medical records from other physician offices, hospitals, laboratories, emergency departments, and radiology departments prior to patient visits as needed.
Complete all assigned tasks in the electronic system, including responding to patient messages, processing prescription refills, communicating lab results, coordinating referrals, working with home health agencies, handling medication prior authorizations, and managing patient forms and physician follow-up.
Ensure all daily tasks are reviewed, addressed, and appropriately closed before the end of each business day.
Support the Patient Centered Medical Home model by administering and collecting patient satisfaction surveys.
Contact patients between visits to assess medical status, reinforce care plans, and evaluate medication adherence.
Follow established protocols related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality.
Complete required annual recertifications, including OSHA, compliance, respiratory fit testing, and IT policy training.
Maintain current CPR certification and Medical Assistant certification.
Provide coverage for other clinical staff during vacations, illness, or other absences, as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned by physicians or supervisors to support smooth clinic operations.
Essential Skills
Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential.
Experience in triage, including taking and recording vital signs.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Proficiency using electronic medical records (EMR).
Strong customer service skills with a patient-centered approach.
Experience in a family medicine or primary care setting.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and complete all daily responsibilities before the close of business.
Knowledge of infection control practices, environmental safety procedures, and patient confidentiality requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
1+ year of medical assistant experience preferred.
Experience using Allscripts electronic medical record system.
Familiarity with coordinating medical records from external providers, hospitals, labs, and radiology departments.
Experience handling prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health coordination, and medication prior authorizations.
Comfort working within a Patient Centered Medical Home model, including patient outreach and satisfaction surveys.
Commitment to ongoing professional development, including completion of annual OSHA, compliance, respiratory fit testing, IT policy training, and maintenance of CPR and MA certifications.
Work Environment
This position is based in a family medicine department within a learning-focused healthcare facility. The schedule follows a Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. shift with a 30-minute lunch break. The environment offers exposure to a wide variety of illnesses and treatments, providing Medical Assistants with opportunities to expand their clinical skills and knowledge. The team emphasizes professional growth, with managers and providers fostering an atmosphere that supports learning and development. Daily work involves frequent use of an electronic medical record system, including Allscripts, as well as routine handling of clinical equipment and sterilization processes. The setting is fast-paced and collaborative, with a strong focus on patient-centered care, teamwork, and adherence to safety and confidentiality protocols.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
