GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is looking for a dynamic Principal Engineer to lead our Traffic-Electrical Design program in Cheyenne, WY.
As the Traffic-Electrical Design Engineer, you will contribute to the Traffic Program's mission for a safe and efficient state highway system by supervising electrical design teams for the purpose of developing and approving electrical design plans for contract bidding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
Responsible for about 25 to 30 design projects at any one time.
Oversee the research, design, and production of electrical plans.
Responsible for ensuring designs are compatible with current National Electrical Code & State Fire Marshal requirements.
Provides electrical plans to the State Fire Marshal's Office or local jurisdiction.
Coordinates project development and documentation of design progression.
Supervises the electrical design team.
Determines or works with other programs to determine locations for electrical system devices and associated power sources.
Provides written and oral guidance to engineering technicians in the preparation of designs and details to ensure WYDOT standards, national codes, and regulations are being achieved.
Produces a clear, concise, biddable, constructible, and complete package of electrical plans for traffic signal systems, lighting systems, and ITS systems for various WYDOT projects.
Provides project specifications and special provisions.
Works with and incorporates various recommendations from other state programs, District field personnel, as well as non-state agencies.
Review materials submittals by the electrical contractors for all design projects.
Provides recommendations based on system age, deficiencies, and evaluation of the engineer's recommendations. District needs, project scope of work, and plan inspection meeting notes to determine work required on the existing systems.
Performs engineering analysis of the electrical systems, including design variables and associated costs.
Provides preliminary cost estimates to the Traffic Program management, Project Development team, and District personnel.
Writes, reviews, and monitors progress of special provisions covering unique project requirements not covered by existing specifications.
Modifies/Updates Traffic Program policy manuals, standard details, and standard plans, as necessary, to meet current standards.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Knowledge of Electrical and Traffic Engineering concepts, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of WYDOT's practices regarding roadway planning, construction, and design.
Skill in interpersonal, verbal, and written communication with a variety of roadway design and construction professionals.
Knowledge of engineering calculations and judgements relating to implementing electrical systems into highway construction planning and design.
Ability to oversee and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
Ability to define, analyze, and resolve technical problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)
Experience:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Project Engineer
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Professional Engineer's (PE) License Required at time of hire - (Wyoming PE required within six months of hire date.)

This position will supervise the construction staff and projects located in Newcastle, Wyoming.
The successful candidate may be eligible for relocation expense reimbursement.
Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus
Acceptance of a permanent, full-time position posted for public recruitment.
Temporary employees accepting a full- time position.
Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public.
One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
