The Buyer / Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing production schedules to support customer demand and operational objectives. This role coordinates purchasing activities, manages inventory levels, and ensures the timely availability of raw materials and components required for production. The Buyer / Planner works closely with Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, and suppliers to balance material availability, production capacity, and inventory investment.
This position reports to the Production Planning and Scheduling Manager and is based out of our Anoka Location.
What you'll do:
Develop and maintain detailed production schedules based on customer demand, forecasts, inventory targets, and manufacturing capacity.
Plan and purchase raw materials, components, packaging, and other required supplies to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
Monitor inventory levels and maintain appropriate stock levels to support operations while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
Analyze material requirements using ERP/MRP systems and generate purchase orders accordingly.
Coordinate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, resolve shortages, and expedite critical materials.
Review production priorities and adjust schedules as necessary to accommodate changing customer requirements, material constraints, or operational issues.
Collaborate with Production, Warehouse, and Quality teams to ensure smooth material flow and schedule execution.
Investigate and resolve material discrepancies, shortages, and scheduling conflicts.
Maintain accurate planning parameters, lead times, safety stock levels, and supplier data within the ERP/MRP system.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory management, production planning, purchasing processes, and supply chain efficiency.
Participate in forecasting and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) activities as needed.
Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and procedures
Experience you bring:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
3+ years of experience in production planning, purchasing, inventory control, or supply chain operations in a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems and inventory management principles.
Experience developing and managing production schedules.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with suppliers.
APICS/CPIM certification preferred but not required.
You might have:
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience with demand forecasting and capacity planning.
Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions under changing conditions.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based within a manufacturing environment.
May require occasional interaction with warehouse and production floor personnel.
Standard business hours with occasional extended hours as needed to support operational demands.
Work Environment:
Employee work assignments may include tasks working with and/or exposure to potentially hazardous areas, including flammables and explosives. Safety training is provided to all employees to ensure compliance with company and federal regulations.
Pay Range:
$62,500.00 - $87,600.00
The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
