Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist
Job Description
This role focuses on setting up, operating, and editing programs on CNC lathes to machine components from plate or flat stock to precise dimensions based on blueprints. You will work primarily on Haas 3-axis lathes to produce hot runner components for the plastic injection industry using a variety of materials, including steel, copper, nickel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and hardened steel. The position requires strong CNC lathe skills, G & M code editing, and a commitment to quality in a clean, modern, and dynamic manufacturing environment.
Shift: 2nd
Responsibilities
Set up and operate Haas 3-axis CNC lathes, including performing tool changes and adjusting machine parameters as needed.
Machine components from plate or flat stock according to blueprints, holding exact dimensions and meeting detailed specifications on various shapes and materials.
Edit G & M codes on Haas and Fanuc controls to optimize feeds and speeds and ensure efficient and accurate machining.
Read and interpret engineering prints to determine machining operations, sequence, and required tooling.
Use digital micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools to inspect and verify dimensions of each part, maintaining tight tolerances and quality standards.
Perform quality inspections on all produced parts and document results as required.
Replace tool inserts and cutting tools when necessary to maintain part quality and process efficiency.
Carry out routine machine maintenance to keep equipment in proper working condition.
Work independently to complete set-ups, particularly for small lot sizes typically under five pieces.
Operate CNC lathes in accordance with leader's instructions and production requirements.
Perform a variety of machining operations such as turning, boring, threading, drilling, reaming, and milling flats and grooves.
Support both production runs on multiple machines and one-off or custom component work and alterations to print.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area and follow all shop procedures.
Adapt to a dynamic work environment and adjust to changing priorities and workloads.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 3 years of CNC lathe set-up and operation experience, specifically on 2-axis lathes.
Strong understanding of G & M codes and their application in CNC machining.
Demonstrated ability to edit G & M codes on Haas or Fanuc controls, including adjustments to feeds and speeds.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings.
Ability to read and use digital micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
Proven capability to perform accurate set-ups, particularly for small lot sizes.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced production environment.
Capacity to operate CNC lathes according to instructions while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with Haas mills (3- and 4-axis) and 3-axis lathes with live tooling is a plus.
Machining a range of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, brass, steel, and hardened steel.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot machining and quality issues.
Comfort working in both production environments and component/one-off machining areas.
Solid understanding of routine machine maintenance practices.
