Job Description:
Apex Systems is hiring a Cyber Security Principal (Cyber Risk Defense, Splunk Development Principal) for a large healthcare client.
Location: Fully remote anywhere in the United States.
Employment Type: 1-year contract with possibility to extend or convert.
Role Overview: Client is expanding their Cyber Risk Defense program and seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist and Python Developer with deep expertise in the Splunk Enterprise platform. This role focuses on developing advanced machine learning (ML) solutions to enhance privacy and compliance across clinical systems.Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and refine machine learning models for anomaly detection and privacy risk.
Build and support Splunk-based solutions in containerized environments like PodMan.
Integrate and analyze complex data sources, including electronic medical records and clinical workflows.
Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to tune and evolve ML use cases.
Analyze clinical workflows and data to enhance privacy and threat detection.
Build custom Splunk applications to detect privacy risks using the Splunk AI Toolkit.
Contribute to enterprise-scale development involving applied ML modeling, production ML operations, and domain reasoning.
Required Qualifications
Education: HSD/GED required; Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field is HIGHLY preferred.
Experience:
5-10 years of experience as a Splunk developer (not administrator).
5+ years of machine learning experience.
5+ years of statistical analysis and modeling experience.
5+ years of experience developing content in Splunk Enterprise.
4+ years in an informal leadership role working with project or technical teams.
4+years in information security or network engineering.
3+ years of experience with data visualization tools.
Technical Skills:
Strong Python development skills in UNIX environments (RedHat, PodMan).
Experience with ML/AI frameworks such as Random Forest, XGBoost, Isolation Forest, and Autoencoders.
Experience building or maintaining anomaly detection models (e.g., LOF, Isolation Forest, Autoencoders).
Familiarity with model tuning, interpretability tools (SHAP, LIME), and imbalanced datasets.
Hands-on experience with feature engineering, data cleaning, encoding, and model validation.
Practical understanding of precision/recall trade-offs.
Ability to create and train unsupervised ML models external to Splunk.
Certifications
An active Splunk Enterprise Security Certified Admin or Splunk Core Certified Consultant credential is required.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay rate for this position is between $80.00/hr and $100.00/hr.
