Summary This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Responsibilities The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to test, troubleshoot, repair and modify aircraft fuel distribution systems, repair leaks of external/integrated tanks, and provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth therein. DUTIES: DUTY 1: Receives work document(s) or oral instructions regarding problems with aircraft fuel system. Troubleshoots integral fuel tanks, using leak path analysis and other test procedures such as pressure checks, vacuum checks, dye injection checks, helium and argon gas checks, etc., to determine the source of fuel leaks. DUTY 3: Troubleshoots fuel Tanks to determine location of leaks. Accomplishes modifications and prepares components for storage or shipment. DUTY 4: In performing duties uses a variety of common hand tools, combustible and toxic gas indicators, torque wrenches, leak detectors, pressure gauges, manometers, powered tools such as drills and pneumatic wrenches; also, operates AGE such as blowers, filters, vacuum cleaners, heaters, air conditioners, fire extinguishers, etc. DUTY 5: Prepares effective training plans to maximize Reserve training. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-8200 - Fluid Systems Maintenance Family. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8200 - Fluid Systems Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: the ability to do the work of an Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The incumbent'sregular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned some non-ART duties,generally not exceed 30 % of total responsibilities. Work schedules will be so aligned to allow the individual to function fully onunit training assembly (UTA) weekends. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
